Does anyone know how slayers are activated? We know now that there are not just ONE in-waiting but a whole bunch of them. I know that when Buffy briefly died, Kendra was activated. And when Kendra died Faith got activated. But what force chooses which of the SIT is actually activated? And when/how does a SIT know she's activated? And does Buffy having died and reborn have any effect on the slayer-line? This would mean there will ALWAYS be 2 slayers at one time. When Christy Swanson as Buffy played the character, her watcher had to clue her in. While Buffyverse has developed over the years, I had the notion that a slayer is a slayer from birth. That she had these intrensic abilities... waiting to awaken. That it had more to do with the one slayer being reincarnated into different bodies... But the movie and the TV series seem to contradict here. Somehow the Old Buffyverse became a Franchise in the TV Series with multiple everying, including slayers and watchers. [Sorry for the bantering, but I really want these ?s answered] Someone taking Filming 101 go make a movie titled "Being Joss Weddon" for me!!!

I was given the impression that another slayer will NOT be called when Buffy finally does die, but rather one will be called when Faith dies as she is now the Slayer? I could be wrong..

I agree with The Bunnies, Faith is now the newest Slayer and the line will continue when Faith dies, not Buffy. At least, that is what I have come to believe.

Yea, Since Buffy had technically already died and activated Kendra (who died and activated Faith) when she died the second time it did not activate another slayer, as she had already techically died. I hope that makes sense. THe only problem I have with the whole slayers in Training thing, was how come Buffy never was told she was a potential? She trained for like a night, and immediantly started into the slayer duties. Kendra said that she had known since she was young that she was a slayer, and Faith had obvioulsly known for a while before she was activated that she was one. The whole Premise has thrown me for a loop.

Marti Noxon already stated that Buffy can only get ONE replacement and that's it. I think a Watcher will be sent to inform and train the new Slayer.

i think in the movie and perhaps in the series they state that they couldn't find Buffy for some reason, she showed no abilities that most slayers in training normally show...and yes in the movie they made it seem like the slayer was a force that was reincarnated into the next girl, and so was the watcher...always one watcher and one slayer, but the TV series got rid of that without any mention of it...

Noone has mentioned whether Faith knew or not before she became a slayer...

And i think that slayers are going to either have their legend changed or cease to exist in the form they are now...i think theire are going to be multiple slayers from now on, and continue to be multiple slayer lines...i have heard many rumors that they are making casting calls for five different girls to have guests appearances with no voicage in the last eppy...they all seem to be hit by some "unseen" force and stumble back for a sec. and then seem to get stronger....perhaps leading into the next spin-off? Perhaps Willow will have to find these girls and train them in the ways of (whatever they will call these new champions)!

Aha!

I said this exact thing at the end of February HERE.

I think this is what Joss is setting us up for.

If you don't want to click and scroll, here is what I posted on February 28, 2003.

... After reading the latest spoilers though, I have a theory.

Somehow, the interaction between the The First Evil, the two Slayers, the SITs and the Hellmouth changes everything forever.

There is no longer a single line that the Slayer power passes through. Suddenly, most, if not all, of the potentials are fully powered slayers, as well as several potentials that weren't known about.

Imagine the possiblities for spin-offs now that it appears Faith the Vampire Slayer is not going to happen.

Just a thought.
