Slayer Calling?

Y'all are saying that Buffy was reactivated after she came back to life the second time. Ever since she was activated she was activated the entire time. If she wasn't activated the entire time she wouldn't have been a Slayer at all. So she can't be reactivated. She just can't activate a Slayer anymore because that happened when she died the first time. The disruption comes from her being alive and active yet again and all do to mystical means.

The truth is that most of what is said throughout season seven does validate the "Buffy again" theory. My problem is that the flow of information is not consistent. The whole slayerline disruption needed to be addressed in much greater detail and what everybody knew needed to be clarified because i really don't think a lot of it makes sense. People were stating facts here and there without any reference to how they knew and what had led to that conclusion. In previous seasons you were able to follow the logic of what was being discovered and it made sense whilst in season seven things were being said by people who had no way of knowing them to be true. You were just supposed to accept that somehow they knew without anyone telling you why.

That all sounds like pretty valid critique all right, Gothic, and may explain why you hear so many people being so hard on the season.

Nevertheless I continue to maintain that once you make a conscious decision to believe in whatever S-7 tells you, you're going to have a whole bunch of Eureka moments.

It isn't really that the info isn't there - it is. It's just that it's not presented in a convincing manner.

I mean think about it, what reason do we have for doggedly hanging on to the idea Faith is still the slayer. There's absolutely no evidence for it, and S-7 tells us Buffy is the slayer now. So why do so many people stubbornly refuse to believe it? I don't know. S-7 says what it says, but people refuse to believe what they see and hear. The only explanation I can think of is for whatever reason, (and yours is as good any other explanation I've heard) S-7 is just not convincing.

I want say again though, I believe if the viewer makes a conscious decision to choose to accept whatever S-7 tells him or her blindly (with a few exceptions like Greenberg episodes), everything in Season 7 starts to fall into place.

Buffy was THE slayer, then she died and Kendra became THE slayer, then Kendra died and Faith became THE slayer. (THE slayer meaning the one who can activate another upon their death).

This was so until Buffy was brought back in Bargaining (S6). Willow's spell magically reinserted Buffy with the ability to activate another slayer. Hence both Buffy and Faith are THE slayers 🙂

This is the disruption that occurred which the Beljoxa's Eye discusses. It's why The First is now able to seize.

Yeah it's villains. As for that, I'm sure she flatlined, but I don't think there was enough time to call another slayer anyway.

But it was physical death wasn't it? That's all you need to activate another slayer.

Maybe that was what caused the disruption.

Honestly, there is no real way to know that there wasn't a third slayer out there. Most theories tend to go "Oh, no way there could have been another slayer". But we didn't know about Kendra or Faith until they showed up.

If there was a third slayer and the First had managed to kill her off, just would have activated another one, then another one.

But I really can't imagine a third slayer out there.

I just think that the event in Villians somehow re-inserted Buffy back in to the line. What I haven't made up my mind about is this:

Did Buffy's re-insertion un-insert Faith (That sentence went places it should not have)? Did Buffy overlap Faith somehow?

Was that the true disruption? Two slayers who could each activate another slayer.

Ah I used to be so much better at stating my Buffy hypothesis

I'll tell you the one scene that needed to be added in order to settle this entire debate once and for all.

After Giles returned from seeing the Beljoxa's Eye he should have set about attempting to confirm what he suspected that the Eye was talking about. Once he had established that the mystical nature of Buffy's second resurrection had somehow made her the "currently active" slayer again instead of Faith he should have gone to Buffy and the others to explain what had occured and how this had led to The First making it's move when it did.

Instead we saw Anya and Giles walking away from talking with the Eye and the discussion was never mentioned again. Soon after everyone was talking about the fact that Buffy was the active slayer again with no apparent reason why they believed this to be true. If that one scene i described above had been included in the show all of the problems we have debated tonight could have been avoided.

Not so sure about that to be honest. Giles suggested in What's My Line that the length of time of death was irrelevant.

As far as that is concerned i tend to think that the Council would have known of the existence of the third slayer in the same way they were aware of Kendra and Faith long before Buffy or Giles were.

I had to come back to this thread especially to give you rep on this. So-o-o true on the Showtime thing.
I always thought Giles never discussed the whole Beljoxa's Eye thing because it would have made Buffy think all of this was her fault. Ok, so maybe it was, in a small part, more Willow's though.

Possibly, but i don't think Giles would withhold significant information that might have helped them defeat The First just so that he didn't hurt Buffy. He is too practical for that.

I don't see how it would have helped them defeat the First. The only real way to stop the disruption would have been to kill Buffy right?

Plus he loved her like a daughter.

Well it's kind of irrelevant anyway because he obviously must have told Buffy and the others as they were all aware that she was the active slayer again by the time of the events of Potential. At some point Giles must have discussed what he discovered with them or there is no way that any of them could have known that.

The pity is that the discussion wasn't seen on screen because that would have clarified a lot of the missing details.
