In the season 6 fanalie Grave, Buffy and Giles are talking about her calling and the slayer line.

Buffy: "It was like, when I crawled out of that grave I left something behind. Part of me, just, I don't understand why I'm back."
Giles: "You have a calling."
Buffy: "But it was my time Giles. Someone would have taken my place. So why?"
Now I know people say the slayer line is with Faith now and not Buffy.

But in the season premiere (S6) they played it out like the Buffy bot was covering for Buffy's death. And then when they destroyed the bot, the real Buffy came back and restored order.

But based on that conversation, Buffy makes it seem like the slayer line is still with her and not Faith. And is Giles talking about being the slayer as her calling? What exactly are they talking about?

It seems pretty self evident, perhaps because the slayer line has been passed on to Faith, and the fact that Faith probabally isn't going to go anywhere for a while, the "powers" keep buffy's " calling" until faith straightens up or dies, and the lineage moves on.

But I think it's a simple truth, once a slayer always a slayer, dead or not, hence the calling. But it could be as simple as a whedonverse overlook.

I think that the consensus when we discussed it before was that it was probably just a writing goof. Although I prefer to think that Buffy was still a little confused as a result of her having been dead all those months and Giles was just trying not to upset her.

Joss has stated in interviews that the line runs through Faith, but I do believe that was pre-season six and Buffy coming back could have easily changed the line, again.

Buffys first death changed the line. Which brings kendra. Kendra dies and Faith is here. In s5, since it wasnt natural, the second death had no effect. But being brought back in s6 changed it again. But I still think that the potential turned slayers dont matter. The Chosen Two, Buffy and Faith.

Well I think you're right about how the line went, I just found it really odd based on that conversation. In S7 when Willow turned the potentials to slayers, they changed the rules so the slayer lines didn't exist anymore. They were all chosen.

::nono1:: ::nono1:: ::nono1:: yes it is. Buffy and Faith together are the Slayer. Yes, one not plural. Didnt you see the last battle when they fought in the HellMouth? When Buffy got gutted and weak, all the potential turned Slayers began to lose. When Faith started winning they began winning. See. The power is in Faith and Buffy. Not the trampy potentials, ok!!!!!! ::nono1::
