Given that they spent most of S8 in Scotland, I would have expected to see more European Slayers turning up. But, nope.

So, is this purely because Joss and the writers are American and don't think about having Slayers outside of their own country? Or maybe it's something deeper. The only two known Slayer ARE in America, afterall.

Aside from the fact that the show is American, I'm going to guess that the slayers are mainly American because the two hellmouths mentioned during the serie were both located in the US. Now haven't read the comic so I don't know if they mention any more hellmouth but in the serie I'm fairly sure they only talk about Sunnydale and Cleveland (although I might be wrong, it's been a while, please correct me if I'm wrong).

Why do I keep thinking she is from Trinidad. That's what comes to mind when I think of her.

I've looked. I can't find an answer anywhere. I went through the scripts of the three episodes she was in. I even checked her wiki-buffy page, haha.

I think the only reason is because the writers are American. I haven't read the comics but I'm surprised there aren't more non-American slayers, especially as they aren't limited by only having American actresses.

Historically, I don't think there's much of a connection between slayers and Hellmouth's. Nikki in New York wasn't killing demons on a Hellmouth, neither was the Chinese Slayer. Buffy's really the first slayer as far as I know who concerned herself not just with vampires, but with other demons in general.

They probably have most American slayers because of the language barriers in s8, I'd assume. It's a lot easier to write punny, reference heavy dialogue with native speakers.

I think it's just laziness and ignorance. Writing diverse characters requires some research and effort. Eh, the comics are full of garbage like that. This one's my favorite:

Looks Japanese and speaks Japanese, yes, hence the question mark that I put next to 'American', but I can't recall anything that specifically mentions that she was born or lived there before she was Called. I have a friend who looks Chinese and speaks Chinese, but was born and raised in Belfast, has a British passport and declares herself as British if anyone asked her. Which is why I was unsure about both Satsu and Renee. If you can show me the panel that mentions either of their nationality, I'll gladly ask a Mod to fix the original post.

[MENTION=11194]EVIL UU[/MENTION], About the train in the comic, Faith clearly states that they are riding a cattle car, which is what people would illegally use from transportation. I don't actually know if they have that in Germany or not, but we sure do have them in Canada and they are use for cargo transportations, our passenger trains also look much nicer. You can't possibly compare a passenger train to a cargo train. Yes a freight train would probably not look as bad as the one in the comic but definitely not as good as the one showed in the picture.

And even so, it's not just that. With cultural stuff, I can of course only judge German pretty well, but even there there's more examples. Like with the other slayers...I have never met ANYONE named Rowena, and according to Lyri's list she's supposedly German. Maybe it's more romanticized versions of countries they use, but if you're actually from that country it's kinda more like uhhhhmmm...what?

I'm sure some of those "American" slayers/potentials were Canadian. They just never said it because there would have been too many jokes to be made... (yeah, don't think we're not aware what you guys think about us 😛)

Yes, I see your point of view, trust me Canada is one of the country getting mostly stereotype on American show since were neighbours.

I understand that of course steam engine are not used, and I'm sure people won't assume that simply from reading a comic. I'm also pretty sure that they would have made the train the exact same if it was in America simply because it does look nice and adds to the "illegally travelling by train" vibe.

I don't think they are trying to insult anyone here, they use fiction names all the time, like Willow, Buffy, Spike, that's just how the show works. Of course, I'm no one to judge, I'm not German, I have no clue how your culture works so I respect your opinion. If I was in your shoes I may not like these kind of things either.

Well, population wise it does make some sense. I mean, there are over 360 million people in the U.S. It's one of the biggest population countries in the world. It makes sense that, just by attrition, Slayers would draw from there. It's just a little surprising that there aren't more from China and Russia.

The US may have one of the largest populations, but not compared to the rest of the world combined, so I wouldn't necessarily say it makes sense from that standpoint.

I agree that it's lazy writing. It's easier to write Americans, because the writers are American.

Are there any Indian slayers? They have a huuuge population.
