Slayers in the Scotland Crew

Scottish or not Scottish? Or even from the UK?

Leah very clearly is Scottish, if her accent and choice of tartan clothes are any indecation. But what about the others? Everyone seems to refer to Buffy as 'ma'am' which would indicate American.

So, if most of the crew are neither Scottish, English, Welsh or Irish/Northern Irish, where are they from and how come they ended up drafted in the Scotland Crew? Wouldn't it have made more sense to draft them to the closet squad to their home town, rather than drag them half-way across the world?

I imagine some of them might no longer have been welcome at home with their new abilities. Others yet perhaps lived in such remote areas of the world that they would not have been able to do much good. And again others may simply have come to Scotland to receive training there.

All of the girls that we have seen so far at the castle, with the exception of Satsu, appear to be either American or European, but remember, we've only seen a relatively few of what must be a hundred or more of the girls living there. For that matter, the new Slayers might even rotate through there, staying a few weeks or more, then returning to their regular duty assignment, with only a key group, including Satsu and a few others, remaining as more or less assistant training staff, like graduate students assisting the professors in college.

Id say scotland isn't so much a training camp as it would be where the best of the best gather.

Like the ones in the castle are Buffy's elite squad that where gathered from around the world and get sent around the world.

Not necessarily. In a Japanese martial arts class, the chief instructor is called "Sensei" (master) by all of the students, regardless of their nationality. "Ma'am" might just be something that Buffy was called, maybe by Xander or Dawn, and it just stuck. Satsu in particular, being Japanese, might very well be the one to start the Ma'am/Sensei tradition.
