why are all the Slayers in Training white britsh or white american girls....i can accept that their british and american because giles can't travel around the world to save every slayer....but why all white....throw in black, brown, red, yellow, blue....anything but the same of the three color....lets try to get some diversity on the show.....
 
In the next episode, there is going to be an African American SIT. There has been a Chinese slayer and then another African American in the 70's. Molly isn't British, she's Australian. But, still, that isn't much diversity.
 
Uhm ... I have to warn you, there might be more SITs in the future episode, and among those there might be black girls, or at least not American or British girls!
 
What does skin color have to do with it? I always thought that we should judge one another by their character than by the color of their skin...Isn't that what MLK spoke of? Or maybe my hearing was playing tricks on me that day in Washington. Unless of course, there is something called "good racism?"
 
I think its silly to say "OMG There are no black people" or "OMG where are the Chinese people??!!" -- besides look in future eps anyway.
 
ok...lets look at it this way.... anyone who lives in California knows that there are as much latinos than they're are white people....so in sunnydale CA...there are zero latino people in the town....

and black people....whoever was black has died or gone back to england...

people may say that this is racist itself...but what you really should be looking at is the institutional racism prevalent in tv today....

all i'm saying is that i want one fakn in minority...one to contrast the white...
 
Yeah, but does it matter? As long as they're good actors why should we care what they look like. Aside from being able to tell who they are of course! 😀 And look at it this way: the creators can't really be racist or they wouldn't have ever had Gunn on Angel, much less having Gunn and Fred together intimately. And they are pretty open minded. They've had a gay couple as main characters on BTVS, too. I don't think they even realize that they are doing it much less discriminating against any type of people in particular.
 
No, it doesn't matter, but it is a little strange, why do they only write about white characters? ... No there are some black people, but the mayority is white ... off course the social environment of Buffy doesn't really involve black people, no offence, but they live in different layers of society, not all of them, but unfortunatly, we're not as equal as we think, and therefore sometimes they don't mix, not because they don't want to, no, just because they don't need to, they're nice to each other at the mall, but they have lives of their own, and allready have enough friends!

it has nothing to do with the actors...it has to do with the writers and casting directors that run buffy... i give angel props for having allot of diversity...but buffy...casting director seems a bit sub consciuosly racist...

it was TERRIBLE!!

as a fully qualified Brit i can honestly say i have never met anyone who talks like that who wasnt putting on a pathetic accent!

im not saying it was a bad accent as such, but not for 2003, 1903 maybe but not today

how do they find people like Alexis and James and then find people like that?? 😕
 
Hey, can i just say that i really dont get what all this black/white/racist conversation is all about cause in the second season of buffy they had kendra on the show and she was a slayer and also black. She wasnt on the show very long but she was still on it. And, again you've got Gunn on angel.
 
Yeah, I have a couple of friends that I talk to on the phone that are british and I thought that her accent compared to their's was terrible. But I think you misunderstood me. I meant that you had a good point. Not that their accents were good. I liked how you compared them to Dickens though. That was funny! Yeah, you got to wonder how they have people like James and Alexis who definitely sound british and then get some girl who sounds like she needs to be in a broadway play.
 
and the whole slayer in training idea is gay...like something the writers made up out of thin air without any pretext or setup...damn gay...

it's like inservice training for a job...where they make you watch videos that are subliminally lulling you to sleep...i hate inservice..
 
I understand where people think that there isn't much diversity shown as America has many culturally diverse people (african american, asian, etc....) However, we've only seen the first 3 SIT's that Giles was able to find in England. As shown in those little flashes of different SIT's being murdered, there are SIT's of various ethnic background in various countries! I think that the distance/area that all the SIT's are spread across is important to remember as well. It's not like Giles went all over the world to find every SIT. Why don't we all wait until we see more of the SIT's before making a final judgement?

Oh no...I didn't mean to imply otherwise - sorry. But (just to point out) the SIT that sorta hits on Willow (I forget her name) looks a bit Latin (sorta J-Loish?)

Anyway I don't really want to comment too much I guess. I'm always scared that I'll end up saying something "politically incorrect" and offending someone on a topic like this. To me people are people and that's that 🙂
