Imagine yourself as either the Slayer or, for us guys, a rogue demon hunter, about to go out on patrol. You can choose any weapon you want with two exceptions: Buffy's scythe is locked securely away where no one can touch it, and local laws expressly forbid modern firearms, explosives, rocket launchers, flame throwers or anything of the like. Whatever weapon you choose has to be effective against whatever you encounter, whether vamp, demon, hell god, or disgruntled high school principal. Okay, the sun's about to set, it's time for patrol, and the arsenal's open. Step right up. What'll you have and why?

You can't beat the elegance, speed and efficiency of a sword IMO... preferrably a Japanese one for the sick quality of the edge! I'd wish for one to be specially made for me, though... longer than a wakizashi, but quite a bit shorter than a regular katana.

Can I pick more than one? If so, I would take something to hit with, but real hard (for the humans you can't kill), a crossbow, for if you can't or don't want to get to close to your opponent, and a stake, just in case you're fighting somewhere where there are no other wooden objects around for dusting. Yeah, I think that would be it. And if I can only pick one, I would go for the hitting thing (maybe some sort of axe or sword, so you also have the sharp blade-y bit), because you can use that with everything, and the chance that there's nothing around that can be used to stake the possible vampires is very slim, I'd say.

Broad Sword, more gutting with your cutting! I've always loved them in D&D and stuff, like a big girthy double edged razor. I'd like to detail it farther in say silver but silver edges don't stay sharp.

a close second is paired katars, one wood, one iron. (no steel, bastard metals don't do so well against the supernatural in most of the fantasy books I've read, it has to be a pure metal and steel is not.)

a distant third is the super soaker filled with holy water.

(I just noticed that I forgot to post my own choices)

For a primary weapon, I would want a fairly heave sword, specifically the Scottish basket hilt Claymore (the smaller version like Liam Neeson used in "Rob Roy" as opposed to the tree chopper Mel Gibson used in "Braveheart") and for closer in work, a big heavy knife, most definitely a Bowie, with about a 10 to 12 inch blade.

Incidentally, if anyone is interested in such things, Cold Steel offers a free dvd demonstrating the cutting power of their products which is absolutely amazing.

Sorry, I didn't read far enough in their ad. The dvd is only free in the U S. There are some cutting demos on Youtube, though, that are almost as good.

I would probably choose Gunn's cool axe that is curved on the shaft that was made for him by some of the kids in the hoosd. I would of chose that if it wasn't later destroyed by the big bad so I guess I would choose Faith's knife and Angel's favourite broad sword. Faith's knife is just supper cool and Angel's favourite broad sword well there must be a reason why it is his fav, well I wana see for my self.

What's up with you people and Japanese swords? Granted, they are pretty but in practically every situation an old fashioned European broad sword is way more effective. If you don't take one too big, they're not at all that heavy, but still heavy enough to knock people KO, which you shouldn't try with one of those samurai thingys. Also, it cuts on two sides instead of one, which in combat is way more handy. The only reason I would choose one of those Japanese swords is because they're easier to disguise as for example a cane, if they're not too big.

Comparing the Japanese katana and a European broadsword is just about like comparing a Dodge Viper with a Humvee. Each is the best in its own area of application, but those areas are completely different.

The Katana is a slashing weapon designed primarily to be used on foot against an opponant wearing, at best, laquer laminate armor, but more likely no armor at all. Its primary edge is literally razor sharp and the laminated steel of its construction results in a blade tremendously strong while remaining light and flexible enough to be very fast. A skilled swordsman could literally cut a human body completely in half at the waist with one stroke. Equally as important as its ability to attack, the katana could be used to block and parry, making it an excellent defensive weapon.

The European broadsword was made primarily to be used by a mounted fighter wearing plate metal armor. (I'm speaking here of the actual broadsword, not the big two handed claymore and flamberge weapons used by very select foot troops to cut the legs out from under horses.) The blade is heavy and still, and the cutting edge is more like a woodsman's axe, rounded and relatively blunt so that striking metal armor would cause less damage to the blade. It's a big strong weapon designed to allow a powerful man to hack his way through an opponant's armor. It's great for attack, but, contrary to what you see in the movies, poor for defense, requiring the knight to use a shield, thereby denying him the use of a more powerful two handed stroke.

Each sword is state of the art in its own field, but trying to compare the two is like the cave men vs astronauts argument. Too many variables foe a definite, consistant answer.

A Sword. But being me and all.....i carry a toothbrush in my bag just incase.
what i would do is squeze the tooth paste in my enimes eyes then poke them 2 death with the tooth brush. Slow and painful. will take me bout 2 lots of toothpaste and prob bout 1-2 hours a kill...make that 3 toothpaste lol!
