I do believe Nick Brendon the actor had a substance abuse problem but I can't say I ever viewed Xander the character as having the same issues.

True. After all, Nicholas Brendon is not the same person as Xander Harris. And if Nick has a problem, as fans we should be supportive of his attempts to remain sober, not make fun or look down on him for it.
Seeing as he's one of my favorite characters and in fact, was my very favorite when I started watching way back in the day, I could write many things here. But since I've been watching season 7 lately, I've really been loving the way he shows affection for Anya towards the end. All the little things, like when they're sharing ice cream, him calling her Sweetie and talking like they're dating again, and when he ruffles her hair and implies she one of the "crazy ones" when she's asleep at the table 😀. I think that's all so adorable.
There's also a part in one of the earlier episodes where that Nancy(?) girl asks if there's anyone in the room who hasn't slept together and I just LOVE the look Xander and Spike give each other!

I just liked the moments when xander drive the car for the others because they can't drive a car!
I also loved the moment when he obtained a job at the construction site for buffy!
And I think he showed true size when his lovespell was out of controll and even Buffy and Willow wantet to sleep with him, but he didn't because of Cordelia. (And I think this is also a reason why Xander is good enough for Cordelia, in my oppinion!)!
