Not sure if this has ben posted before, but it's an interesting bit of news:

"SMALLVILLE," the year-old series about Superman as a teenager, has surpassed "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" as the most successsful show in the history of the WB network.
The debut of the second season of "Smallville" was seen by 8.7 million viewers - most in the coveted males, 18 to 34 group.

On UPN, "Buffy" began its seventh season to just under 5 million viewers, far less than last season's premiere which drew about 7.6 million.

I don't think UPN did enough to promote the new season. I hardly saw any ads for it or anything. I also think last season turned away a lot of viewers. Hopefully they'll come back.

Yeah most of my friends watch it on YTV instead of UPN (dont know if that affects the ratings). And I agree that last season wasnt as good at the last five.

I agree with Batty. UPN didn't do enough promoting for this season esp. with not releasing the season 7 promo pics. I am soo mad about that too. Are they even going to release them at all? That totally sucks that Smallville beat Buffy with the ratings. Oh well I don't really care just as long as people are watching it. Buffy kicks a**! 😀

UPN should move it in front of or right behind of "Enterprise." It would make a good lead in, and may catch some Trekkers who aren't paticularly into horror...

I agree, Not enough promotion! 😡 I don't even get UPN, I gotta tape it on Saturday Nights on YTV so that I can watch it! Grrr...

I was wondering where the promotions were this year as well. Usually I see billboards and such for Buffy premiere's. Guess UPN didn't feel like spending the bucks.

One more thing. Smallville sucks. Who is gonna remember Smallville when it's done. No one. Who's gonna remember Buffy. Everyone. That's why the ratings thing never bothers me, although i do wish it could get hire. Buffy's gonna be one of the show's that's still showing repeats when your sixty. No art is ever apprieciated in it's own time (or good TV) and Buffy will be cult for a looooooooong time.

P.S. Smallville is the suckiest show ever. Not saying that cause i'm bitter, it literally is crap.

Smallville isnt that bad..I watch it,its pretty good.Tough Buffy is still my favorite show. Just like vampire slaying more than super strenght what can I say.

I agree with Cordy, I can't stand Smallville, I watched two episodes and then gave up, even Roswell was better than that. Apparently the ratings have gone down again according to an article out today.

I happen to be a fan of both Smallville and Buffy. I think Smallville is a prefectly good show and so is Buffy. The problem is that UPN did not promote Buffy very much and as said and people have been turned away from the show because of last season. I love Buffy but I wouldn't go and say that Smallville sucks because of it. UPN just needs to get moving and pomote the show more.
Honestly I don't really care about ratings as along as the show is still on and doing well I'm happy.

I don't get it. Smallville totaly bores me, we do so many people watch it, the idea was really stolen from Buffy!

I don't know about the prmotions and stuff as I'm in Australia bt I did notice no promo shots of the cast this year. And it just seemed to sneak up on the veiwers over there, my tape fearie hadn't heard anything of it I had to let her know when it was starting. I have never thought the shift to UPN was a good idea. I think last season was better than most of the last seasons. And as for Smallville...I watched it for about 6 weeks then lost interest, it was going no where, i guess i like my heroes to have freinds who know about them and help them out.

I could care less about Smallville except that it's on against Buffy. What sucks is UPN, I'm convinced they are the problem. They don't know how to promote a show, period. And they've never understood Buffy or the Buffy audience IMHO. I don't get why they threw so much money at Joss to get the show away from the WB and then just leave it . Bad network, bad!

Someone please tell me, how can a show as good as Buffy be on a network as crappy as UPN? Don't the bigger (and better) networks have plenty of money to buy Buffy? I mean, they have to want it - it HAS been wicked successful, not to mention critically-acclaimed. So why are they letting a crap network like UPN have one of the best shows on TV? I seriously don't get it. 😕
