I just got Season 1 of "Smallville" on DVD and what I'd like to know is if its something I should keep watching or if its just trash. I watched a couple episodes and it seems really quite good🙂 but I just wanted to know what my fellow Buffsters thought of it.

I'd like to know, too, actually; I'd love to watch it for James Marsters, but if the show blows, I won't waste my time or money. I've seen one little piece of one episode (I believe Lex and Clark had switched bodies and someone was in jail), and it looked kinda doofy. Am I wrong?

I´d say it´s defenitely watchable. Even if it´s not the first one I´ll rewatch then I have the time. And it doesn´t come close to the standard of Buffy. It surely has it´s up and downs. But I guess I´m pretty biased, liking the superherostuff. It would be better if someone not growing up with the comics told us what they think. My big sister watch it from time to time though.

But are you watching becuase of JM you can jump a few seasons ahead. It takes time until he shows up.

Yeah, but I don't want to be COMPLETELY confused when he finally shows up.
More than 80% of the show is amazing. The other 20% in my opinion blows.

But 80% spanning what is it now 7 seasons? I think they've done alright for themselves.

I got the first 2 seasons. They whole story kinda just drags on.
not great but still quite good.
Love chloe. hate Lana

Hm well I didn't start watching Smallville until Season 4 but I've been hooked ever since. It's actually a really great show. And you don't have to know the superman story and all that to enjoy it. I've never read the comics or seen any movies or anything before watching this, but it doesn't seem to matter because they really did a good job with it. The characters grow on you fast. And the story is really awesome.
My dad used to read the comics and he always remembers bits and pieces and as far as I can tell it stays true to the comics pretty well. I still haven't watched the seasons I missed at the beginning so I can't really say what it started out like. I do know that these seasons I've been watching have just gotten better and better though.
Sometimes the episodes even feel like you're watching a movie or something. They are usually really action packed and entertaining. I think the characters are developed really well.. yet, its pretty slow. I think they are taking way too long with the story.. but you'd have to watch it to know what I mean. (unless thats what they intended it to be like? i dont know..) I don't wanna spoil anything.^^ Its good though, because theres always something to look forward to in the next season. also..they seem to love putting major cliffhangers on season finales. lol. I guess that doesn't matter now since you can buy the DVDs. : D
I'd recommend it though. Its now one of my favourite shows and pretty much in the same line as Buffy & Angel for me. I would say keep watching, because theres a good chance you'll really like it. hope this helped some at least.

Actually, it´s only bits and pieces that stays true to the comics. They´ve changed a lot. But it was the intention from the start. The basics are the same, characers (but they´ve introduced some new one as ell), powers and such but after that they have created their own story. But I think it´s for the better, it´s good to be surprised.

Indeed, but it bugs me that
the big "problem" that shows up in every finale gets solved in the season opener next season. Often it just seems to easy.

As a Superman fan from too many years ago to mention I like Smallville. If it wasn't for the lovely foreshadowing touches of the hero to be (which always make me cheer...Yay! Perry White! Yay! Lois! Yay! Heat vision! Yay! Justice League! etc.) it would still be a good show but for me they make it into a great show 🙂

Does anyone else remember Buffy Summers' Daily Planet board (which was about all things Smallville)?

I think Smallville is boring. Clark is just so gullible. Its almost pathetic to watch for me.

If the series does keep going the should be due for another meteor storm, as they've used that much green stuff

I have up to season 5 of Smallville and I do enjoy the show. I don't know much about the original Superman mythology (besides a few eps of Lois and Clark hehe). The thing that bugs me is the that everything is so easily resolved, Things seem all too easy for the characters. The Lana/Clark relationship annoyed the hell out of me too. Its a show that is easy to watch without having to think too much but I haven't found that it is a show I want to watch over and over again (like I do with Buffy/Angel and Firefly) 😉 Its not my absolute favorite show but it is a hell of a lot better then most. I think it is worth watching (especially if you can get it cheap).
