"Smashed" - what's up with that!?

Oookaay. So by now you all probably know I'm a Spuffy fan.... but... this is just too much. There is no way that could've happened the way it did. Well, it could've, obviously, but that was crazy. It's not so much that they did it, it's the way it happened... I would've been satisfied if they'd done it in any other way, but this was just so obscene and disturbing... does anyone else agree/disagree?

And a question. Why, WHY, did Buffy just all the sudden lose control? That was completely unlike Buffy. (Is this thread completely pointeless? Why do I always feel like any thread I start is completely pointless?)
 
so your saying you didnt like this spuffy scene? i liked it... i didnt find it disturbing.. but then again im in love with all Spuffy scenes.. so dont mind me :silly:
 
No, I didn't like it... I think it was the only Spuffy scene I didn't like. I personally found it VERY disturbing... like... I mean... it's seems so obnoxious and in-your-face... and they just so happened to make it that even over the music and cracking and falling you can still hear Buffy's (or Spike's, I forget) zipper. The whole scene is just out of no where, even though we know it's going to happen.
 
actually, i think this scene perfectly sums up the Spuffy relationship. I'm a HUGE Spuffy fan, and like *CS* above, i love all Spuffy scenes, but it didn't surprise me that it happened like this. the first time i watched it i was surprised, 'cause it actually happened, after 2 years of waiting, but the WAY it happened was expected. the violence, the fighting, Buffy was going through a really hard time at that point, she realized, somewhere in the middle of the fight, that the only time she felt anything was when she was with Spike...it didn't matter if they were fighting, kissing, or just sitting alone together, Spike had her feel something. that's the reason that Spike was the first person to learn that Buffy was in heaven and not in hell like her friends thought.
at the time they started their relationship, Buffy had no emotional attachment to Spike, and she ended it because she started to feel something for him, and she started to feel something about herself...disgust that she was using someone like that.

wow you pretty much summed it up.. perfectly.. and then when Spike got his soul Buffy and Spike became closer and fell in love.. yep they sure did

of course this is the way it was going to happen.. hello slayer.. vampire.. and pain, pleasure.. how else do you feel? pain and pleasure is exactly what Joss used to make this scene .. i dont know perfect for what their relationship had coming.. so he added sex and violence.. pleasure and pain... and i think the silence of the buliding falling down made it intense.. it was one of the best scenes.. i think anyways

Yeah I agree with the two Spuffy fan posters above, liking the scene..

I did find the scene disturbing, and It wasn't like Buffy to do something like this – and that's what I like. It make a hell of a lot of sense to me, at this point in her life, after what she had been through. The only "person" she could let close to her, was this man who she really didn't want to have any kind of attraction with, which is why this shouldn't be a Bangel-making-sweet-love-scene. They're not that kind of "couple". She's not that kind of girl at this point. And I think this scene shows that perfectly.. kind of.

The scene was a shocking development for Buffy. I look at it as Buffy getting in touch with her darker slayer side. Faith hinted at it in Season 3 and I just think this scene embraced that.

Buffy isn't human, she can physically withstand more than normal humans. This was violent and dark and primal...it was deadly, and it touched on her darker nature.

I don't know if I'm explaining it well, but anyway. It showed a different side of Buffy. I thought it was shocking, but not really disturbing 🙂
 
Liking what Epo's getting at.
this scene is also showing us how Buffy has changed in the years since Angel left her...and even in time since Riley left. when Buffy was with Angel, she was a sweet, young, impressionable girl who thought that she would be with Angel for the rest of her life. At that point, she couldn't imagine life without him, and when they slept together for the first time, the scene showed perfectly how they felt about each other.
but now, four years later, Buffy's witnessed that not everything in her life is perfect. by the time of 'Smashed' Buffy had seen things that she didn't think could possible happen to her, things she never wanted to experince. Her mother's death and her own death being at the top of the list.
so why should her love life with Spike be anything but violent? she's come to expect that from her life...her mother was taken from her, both of her boyfriends left her, and she was ripped out of heaven.
she's not that sweet-Sarah Mc-(how do you spell it)-loving-making-type girl anymore.
 
i really love that episode.. buffy always fall in love with the bad guys and spike was one... maybe she found in spike something that she didnt find in riley or angel. and just like she said she was with him just to feel. she wanted to feel alive..

I read the spoilers and saw it coming...you gotta admit violent and complex is how their entire relationship was did you expect anything less when they finally did it? 😀
 
You know, I did expect it, I guess I just wasn't ready for it to happen yet. I don't think I ever was ready for that one scene 😵 But after a while I adjusted.
 
I didn't find this episode disturbing. I actually liked this episode. It was gonna happen at some point Buffy and Spike.
 
I actually was suprised as I was waiting so long for this 'ship to happen.. and because its what i wanted i didnt think it was going to happen!
 
I never really was behind Spuffy, cos, well, I don't like it, and this scene didn't really grow on me. Still, I do agree that it does show her darker side. But I'm still Bangel, and nothing will change that!
 
Sorry but I, myself, am very tired of Bangel. They were too good, too innocent. I felt more with Buffy and Spike than with her and Angel. Everything with Bangel wasn' treal enough for me. The only time I truley loved Bangel was in "I Will Remember You". But I definitely think Buffy loves Spike or is growing to love him.

I think that's a good point about the whole Buffy/Spike scene in this episode. It was just sex to her. It was different from anything she had ever done. She had been in love with Angel and Riley and she had seen a potential relationship with Parker...but she hated Spike, she hated herself at that time too and she wanted to do something to make her feel.

Before that point she had only ever 'made love' with someone she cared about. This was pure sex, so it was bound to be more violent, less flowers and hearts.
