Okay, if you read that article from Oct 10th 2006, it clearly states that SMG will never return to television work - with SMG herself commenting:

"I don't think I could ever do a one hour programme series again. It's the most exhausting life. A movie is an hour and 20 minutes and we were filming almost that every week."

However, if you click the first link down from the article
GELLAR TO RETURN AS GERIATRIC BUFFY?

It clearly states:

SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR wants to return to her role as BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER even if the character comes back as an old woman.

It's dated 3 days later Oct 13th 2006... Now which is the true account? Or do you think they're both wrong?

Personally, I think that SMG has a soft spot for ole Buffy in there someplace and although she's ruled herself out (for now) of doing a Buffy movie, as she herself says: never say never!

I'd like to hope that she's coming around on post-"Chosen" Buffy life, and with that, Joss will be able to give us more.

I think the reunion was a good start for her.

Considering the less than stellar success of her big screen career (Okay that's MY opinion of her movie career. Feel free to disagree if you want) she might be hoping that the return to the small screen and the role that has brought her the most fame is the best career move that she could make at this time.

And just for the record, if there WAS a revival of the show and Joss threw out everything that has been established in Season 8, which he has hinted at before, I would feel severely betrayed. Sure, I would watch the new show, and cheer to have the gang, or at least the ones still available, return, but still I think that it would be a dirty trick to play on the fans who have supported Season 8 comics.

Yeah but certain s8 aspects are not really SMG compatiable like the Satsu sex
i think SMG obv has a soft spot for buffy....but i dont think she wud return to a long running tv series doing buffy again...

but i think shes very much like david boreanaz in the respect that she wont return to buffy unless its for a movie...same as he wont return as angel unless its for a movie....

and @ the paley reunion she did comment on how she would love to do a big screen buffy movie...and they were all gonna see how well sex and the city did on the big screen before discussing it in depth.

so i think theres still hope yet on her returning as buffy...but maybe not for tv and more so for a movie....

and that would be fantastic =)

if you listen closely to pretty much anyone in hollywood, they ALWAYS contradict themselves.
they are constantly talking about:
  • how much they love someone, then they break up
  • how much they love a show, but then leave it for more money elsewhere
  • how much they love working on movies, but then leave for a sitcom
  • how much they love working on tv, but then leave for the movies
  • how they are not addicted to drugs, but the following week they are in rehab

its never ending. you have to view what actors and actesses say like you view the weather......if you stick your head out the window and water hits your face, its raining.

Or it could be someone peeing out the window upstairs. I personally don't condone the peeing out of windows, but I've seen it happen.

Perfect
I think Smg has a soft spot for Buffy, but i cant see her ever playing that character again. Too much times past and same goes for DB and JM. Anyway id rather see a whole new cast if they were gonna revive Btvs in some form.

MSchett agrees: Yeah but certain s8 aspects are not really SMG compatiable like the Satsu sex

I was referring to the castle in Scotland, the Faith/Giles partnership, the new Slayers that have been introduced, and the general global setup more than Buffy's love life, but as for Buffy's relationship with Satsu, I don't see anything any different with that and her famous kissing scene in "Cruel Intentions." We're not talking about a complete character reversal. Season 8 and "Angel: After The Fall" have established a general setup that Joss has assured us is canon, even WAS PLANNING to take it in reference to "Angel," and to just arbitrarily change everything, drop it all and say that it was all really only a dream that Andrew had after consuming too much Zima and Hot Pockets, or to just ignore the comics completely and head off in an entirely different direction feels like a betrayal of the fans.

I can just see it: A movie is announced, the comics come to an end, and the last frame is Andrew sitting in his chair with a big book telling his story!
I dont know. About what he'd keep canon, im sure he could keep some stuff. But on one hand, not being into the comics i'd definetly prefer he dropped their status as i feel if there is ANY possibility of a new TV show then making comics canon isnt really fair on us that dislike what he's done with the comics. BUT, then again, i totally understand how pissed of someone that DID like the comics would Hate if he de-canonized them and they'd feel that putting all that time & money towards the comics would've been a waste. Whatever Joss chooses, theres gonna be some unhappy fans.

As for an actual Buffy/Angel revival, I would much more prefer either a movie or even several movies featuring different characters made simultaneously (now THERE'S a new challenge for Joss!), something like a Buffy Movie closely followed by an Angel movie, then a Buffy/Angel teamup to end the trilogy. That would have a better chance of getting all of the original cast(s) back together than a series, since several of the major actors are committed to successful shows now.

One way to keep the canon could be a Faith/Giles show, like when they teamed up for NFFY, now that would be a good show, maybe even better than a show starring SMG or Boreanaz. They could even team Xander up with Faith and Giles.

I'm not sure how you see those two articles as contradictory.

1st article - emphatically states no return to television for a Buffy portrayal.
2nd article - Here is the joke used as the article headline (old Buffy) - which when you understand, means by the time Joss gets around to doing a movie version of Buffy which she might be interested in SMG will be using a walker.

So how again are these contradictory?

Not trying to be rude, but I don't see why it matters... If she wants to be Buffy again, I really don't care... 🙂

If I was given a doughnut for everytime I contradicted myself I'd be a waddeling fellow of death star proportions instead of just a mildely (damn you Wii- fit.) waddeling fellow. (there is a mateabolic Karma) I dare say I'd make Hommer look good, if contradictions equate calories.

Everyone contradicts themselves, given time. Amplify the spot light and you amplify the "would be" Hommerness by opportunity and well, opportunity. I remember not that very long ago SMG said she would not consider returning to Buffy. Now she is. Big deal and BIG DEAL!!!

Big Deal...she's a very talented actress from the old school of soap opera, she knows about crap such as lighting and fake crying...she is a very capable and talented actress. Bad projects be damned, she is an expert of her craft. Why do i say this? Consult the BIG DEAL! and draw your own conclusion....

BIG DEAL!!!! I love Buffy, always have always will. She represents that self sacrifice, give everyone your best, try to make a difference shtufff that my wife shares. She works dailey in a world of black, white and grey and always keeps it in the dirty white catagory. She's one of my to few heros. She also wears the face of SMG. Sarah pulled this role off very well, some have said too well- I'll say she accomplished the epitomy of her craft. If she returned to it I'd be overjoyed.

Ultimately, Buffy is more Joss than SMG, though. She can relate and represent and she can strike a heart chord....but she doesn't write the symphany that plays me,; she is just a very large part of the band.

Sarah was probably at one time, in fear of the type cast. Thats a common dilema when your playing such an important role and are a child - make that young adult- PRODIGY. Should you doubt me look at star wars. only Harry has escaped; and how great could he have been sans Han?Indy? adventurer? In short sarah is superb` there is no doubt in my mind.

Sadly, there are those that are born to play a part, the best actor for an occasion or better said role. Sarah was either incredibly lucky or cursed....one things not in doubt. She is incredibly gifted and we all know when that gift surfaced in full. (I honestly sort of hope she escapes despite my joy of Buffy season 9....yeah, I know, blasphemy....would'nt be the first time 😉

This concludes a relic rant where my opinions might come off as informed, but are a best guess at best.

Sorry for any offense taken by the metabolicly challenged- none is ment; an early life time of distance running coupled with an adult life that use to sit me in the driverseat of an automobile downing big slams of dew for 3 hours puts me in a place where i am feeling no shame at *self* joking.

Sorry if my forum persona act as if its a know it all. 🙁

If we were going to get a movie I think the verse deserves nothing less than a Lord of the Rings type trilogy of epic proportions! As has been stated many times, Buffy works best as a long arc and something a là¡ Tolkien would do nicely 🙂 I also think if a movie was done it should encompass both shows. To me it doesn't make sense to keep them seperate in a movie. There is soooooooo much scope for stories that it is mind boggling but at the end of the day it will come down to money and whether studios will give it to a Buffy movie.

As we have seen with Sex and the City, tv can do well on the silver screen and I have a feeling Buffy would too.

punkypower
kickasparagus idea for the movie--hmm, I wonder if Joss is a BuffyBoarder.. ;)
She didnt say "I am never doing tv again"

She said "I dont think I could do a hour long show again"

THere is a alittle bit of a difference between the two. For me it basically translates to "I prefer to do movies over tv but I wouldnt say turn down returning to tv for the right show"
