Gellar getting 'Romantic' for MGM, Gallen

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star Sarah Michelle Gellar is in negotiations to topline MGM's "Romantic Comedy" for director Joel Gallen. Production is aimed to begin in August after Gellar wraps production on the sequel to Warner Bros. Pictures' "Scooby-Doo," which sees Gellar reprise her role of Daphne Blake. "Romantic Comedy" reunites Gellar with Gallen -- Gellar co-hosted last year's MTV Movie Awards, which Gallen produced. "Romantic" puts a spin on romantic comedies as a young man named Max tries to win the affections of the girl he loves (Gellar) by copying romantic movie moments. Gellar plays Kate, Max's best friend who works as a translator at the United Nations. Kate, who has been friends with Max for 15 years, is blind to the fact that he is still stuck on her. Bob Cooper, Chuck Weinstock and Marc Platt are producing the project. Rob Green, Lance Khazei and Laura Lichstein are co-producing. Khazei, Jeff Lowell, Barra Garant and Bob Harting wrote the script. Gellar, repped by ICM, the Firm and attorney Debbie Klein, has starred in such features as "Cruel Intentions," "Scream 2" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer." (Zorianna Kit)
 
I heard about this earlier when I was on the SMG BOARDS, as soon as it comes out, I will be at the cinema watching it. Sounds like a good storyline, let's hope it makes it on to the big screen.
 
I heard about this earlier today too at the inner-demon.com boards. Anywho, I think this sounds like a sweet film. I hope it's not retarded with horrible humor because it seems to have a good plot & Sarah needs more good movies.

I'm talking about corny overused material that you only laugh at if you're over 60. Okay, bad explanation, but at least I understand what I'm talking about. Romantic comedies are 90% of the time corny & satire-ish, and I can't stand satires unless it's really well done; I need reality here, people, or I'll start yelling at the screen. Satires try to be funny, but they're all the same.
 
For example, take Maid in Manhattan.
If Jennifer Lopez wasn't in the movie, there never would have been a movie because it was soo bad!

A good romantic comedy is "Sweet Home Alabama".

SMG was not in Scream 2, was she?

She was, but only for a short bit. She was Cici Cooper who was killed at her sorority house.
 
Well, "Romantic Comedy" sounds cute, and hopefully it doesn't flop.

But-- I didn't know they were making a sequel to Scooby Doo.

they pretty much signed up straight after release cause they talk about the sequel on the DVD commentary
yay! more purple!!

anyhoo
ill be lining up to see this movie casue all the prouction peoepl generally speaking have a good body of work behind them which *should* mean that this movie turns out to be pretty good
plus sarahs in it
which will of course be the real reason i see it 😛

I am so happy they are, I love the first one!!!
 
I love Sarah Michelle i really do but doesnt this movie sound a bit boring...its all based on one idea and by the middle of the movie i can see myself saying "PLZ GOD JUST GET TOGETHER ALREADY"
because of course they will get together and of course they will live happily ever after and of course this will be a straight to video release and of course 1 in 2 people that see it will kill themselves by the end of the movie.
 
the director is the one who directed not another teen movie that was good directing right? lol and ofcourse sarah i always like spoof now a spoof of romantic comedys
