Sarah Michelle Gellar is returning to broadcast series TV with a pilot at CBS. In its first drama pilot pickup this season, CBS has greenlighted Ringer, which is toplined by the former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star. The project hails from ABC Studios, CBS TV Studios and Brillstein Entertainment Partners. The pickup of Ringer was followed by another drama pilot order by CBS to an untitled supernatural medical drama from writer Susannah Grant.

Ringer, written on spec by Supernatural writer-producers Eric Charmelo & Nicole Snyder, centers on a troubled young woman (Gellar) who, while on the run from the mob, hides out by inhabiting the life of her wealthy twin sister, until she learns that her twin's life has a bounty on it as well. Brillstein's Peter Traugott is executive producing, with Gellar, Charmelo and Snyder co-executive producing. Geller, repped by ICM and Brillstein's Joanne Colonna, has been heavily pursued by the broadcast networks since the end of Buffy in 2003. Her only TV gig since then had been the HBO pilot The Wonderful Maladys. Charmelo and Snyder, who are story editors on Supernatural, are with UTA and the Shuman Co.

Interesting idea, I think. Wonder if it'll get picked up? SMG's not known for her consistency lately.

I heard about this on twitter a few days ago but there wasn't an article or anything offiicial out yet so I never posted. Anyways, I'm very excited. 😀

According to Whedonesque:

Written by Supernatural writer-producers Eric Charmelo & Nicole Snyder, "Ringer" follows a troubled young woman (Gellar) on the run from the mob, who remains undetected by inhabiting the life of her wealthy twin sister, until she learns her twin's life has a bounty on it as well.

I love Supernatural so if some of the writers and producers are behind this new pilot, I'm very intrigued! Plus, there's Sarah!!! 😀

I will follow and support Sarah to the end of the Earth. A reason to wattch CBS again!!

StarSlayer agrees: You don't watch How I Met Your Mother or the Big Bang Theory?

Noooo. 😛 I tired HIMYM when it began, didn't hold my interest! BBT I hear I need to watch but I'm not much for sitcoms anymore.

Kind of confused. It says SMG returns to TV and they call it the first picked up PILOT of the season, but pilot means kind of like the flagship episode, as in once the pilot is complete THAT is when they'll decide whether to pick up the SERIES. Any confirmation that the SERIES/SEASON was actually picked up by CBS and not just to greenlight the pilot?

I'd watch the show though, seems very interesting and I miss SMG.
PS: she's trending on twitter right now (which for people who doesnt have it, it means she is one of the most talked about topics out of the millions on there)

Ooh I'm excited, I've missed seeing her on TV.. or in movies 😀 Yay for SMG getting back to work

Fingers crossed for this. It would be great to see Sarah back on tv, and twins! Two Sarahs. Yay 😀.
