SMG Returns to TV

Last month we told you Sarah Michelle Gellar might finally be returning to TV via a new CBS drama pilot called Ringer, and Buffy fans rejoiced. Now said project has found a director, and it's an interesting choice: Richard Shepard. While he's worked a lot for the Eye lately, directing the pilot for Criminal Minds and its upcoming spin-off, Shepard is best known for writing and directing the 2005 Sundance favorite The Matador, as well as for his Emmy-winning turn helming the pilot for Ugly Betty. We're praying this doesn't mean SMG will be sporting braces and really bad sweaters in her new show.

Lost alum Nestor Carbonell is set to co-star opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar in the CBS drama pilot Ringer. The project centers on troubled young woman Bridget (Gellar) who, while on the run from the mob, hides out by inhabiting the life of her wealthy twin sister, until she learns that her twin's life has a bounty on it as well. Carbonell, repped by Paradigm and Thruline, will play an FBI agent in charge of keeping Bridget safe so she can testify against the mob who tracks her down and gets to know her "sister."

Fantastic Four alum Ioan Gruffudd is set to star opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar in the CBS drama pilot Ringer. The project centers on troubled young woman Bridget (Gellar) who, while on the run from the mob, hides out by inhabiting the life of her rich twin sister, Siobhan, until she learns that her twin's life has a bounty on it as well. Gruffudd will play Siobhan's wealthy, well-traveled and cultured husband Andrew who senses something different about his wife. Also cast in Ringer is Mike Colter as Bridget's AA sponsor, joining previously cast Nestor Carbonell. Welsh-born Gruffudd is best known for his role as Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four franchise. Colter has done an arc on CBS' The Good Wife.

Tara Summers is set to co-star in the CBS drama pilot Ringer. Is this a series upcoming in the Fall of 2011? Sounds intriguing and Supernatural is awesome, so it should have good writing.

Eh, sounds too much like a soap opera to me (though with thriller elements). Best of luck to Sarah, though 🙂.

Well, Sarah's first full time acting job was on a soap opera, so this would be like returning to her roots. (I'm really surprised that she hasn't done a "after all these years" follow up on her infamous Burger King commercial yet.

That would be REALLY returning to her roots.

New scoop on who SMG's love interest will be.

It's Kristoffer Polaha. He recently played Baz in Life Unexpected.

There are so many fandomy connections with this one. He actually auditioned for the role of Riley on BTVS. And on his latest show Emma Caulfield was his love interest.

I loved him in LUX, so I'm a little more interested in this show now.

He was in both Tru Calling (pilot, Tru's professor whom she dated) and Dollhouse (the guy with the baby in on of the first s2 eps) too 🙂 He's pretty cute!

What is Ringer even about? I've seen the TV Spots but it doesn't really tell you what it's about. I hope it's good though, I would love to see this work out for Sarah. 🙂

I loved him as well in Life Unexpected actually I smiled really big when I saw he was going to be in this when watching the trailers. I was like definitely watching now.

Interesting I never knew he was almost cast as Riley. I actually liked him with Emma's character in Life Unexpected.
