I was watching Smile Time the other day, and I noticed something.

When Lorne and Gunn went to Smile Time and met with Gregor Framkin, he started singing. Why didn't Lorne just read his mind [or whatever he does]? Or did I miss something entirely?

huh, i never thought about that before.
maybe, because they already thought he was a bad guy, Lorne figured that he didn't need to read him to know he was a bad guy?
plus, didn't Gunn inturrupt him when he was singing? maybe he wasn't singing long enough for Lorne to get a reading?

does Lorne read people even if he doesnt want to? maybe he just didnt read him or didnt even notice him singing.. but dam .. you gotta point.. 😀

Hm...I was thinking maybe they just didn't notice that he was singing...or Lorne just couldn't get anything, so he didn't say anything about it.

There is this -

WESLEY
(turns the volume on and then mutes it again)
Yes. When the song is playing, it acts as a sort of cloaking spell allowing Framkin to address his target without being seen by the rest of his viewers.

The fact the Smile Time demons are capable of cloaking spells allows you to fanwank away "Why didn't anyone else at W&H know what was going on" suspicions.

BTW Lorne doesn't need much of a song to pick up a vibe from it. Fred sings, I think it's 3 words from You Are my Sunshine, and he picks up the fact she's been infected by Illyria.

Yeah, Lorne seems to pick up the vibes from people regardless of the length of song or whether or not he wants to.

As for why Lorne doesn't get anything unexpected from Framkin, well it's possible that he was expecting to pick up evil vibes from the guy anyway and, as he was being controlled by the demon at the time, Lorne simply read the evil vibes from him and took it as expected. No great mystery there.
