I'm interested in seeing what percentage of you guys are active smokers. Which could include, but aren't limited to, cigarettes, pipes, hookah, whatever. (and if you're open enough, weed? hey, whatever floats, you know?)

I definitely don't want this to turn into a huge argument from non-smokers about the harmful affects of it. We've all known the stats from a very young age. This is just to see who I might want to meet up with for a charming coffee/cigarette date later on down the road. :]

And yes, obviously I'm a smoker. Not a heavy one, though. I average about a pack every three days. They're getting exceedingly more and more expensive so I'm learning to savor.

Social smoker.

I never actually buy my own, because I just don't need them that badly. But having worked in the restaurant business, I've learned you get more breaks if you're willing to have a smoke with your co-workers once inawhile. And sometimes when I'm out drinking I'll have one or two. At the height of my smoking, I was having an average of two cigs a day because one of my co-workers always wanted me to take a break with him and gave me free smokes. Now that I work a different job, and go out less, I'm averaging maybe 2 cigs a week which is so few it might as well be nothing.

I've never tried to smoke anything in my life. The closest I've got was the chocolate cigarettes as a kid. 😉 Not sure if there's a connection but I really dislike cigarette smoke. But I know there's none smokers that don't have a problem with it so it doesn't have to be a connection. I can be around smokers as long as I don't get the smoke in my face but I'm not fond of smoke filled places. So you can scratch me from a possible date list. 😉

I'm a non-smoker. I've just never had the urge to start smoking, since where's the fun? I once tried to smoke my friend's cigarette when I was drunk, but I was so drunk my hands had stopped working, and I dropped it, so I just left it. 😛

Im a social smoker, but where I am now Im smoking like a pack a day. When I get out Im sure I will go back to social smoking. I can go weeks without a cigarette and then go out one night and smoke 2 packs. I always smoke when I go out to a pub/club and usually have a cigarette in my hand while Im driving. I have no desire to quit, but I will cut down once Im out of here- too expensive!

Out of where?
I'm a smoker, but I don't smoke that much, I think. Ans occasionally I also some pot, but then again, this is the Netherlands, so a lot of people do.

I'm thinking of maybe quitting smoking, but I'm really not sure about it. Well, obviously, it would be better for my health and also make breathing easier when I'm doing sports (lol, I hope), but that's all the plus stuff I can think of. On the other side we have that it's not really as expensive here as in the UK/US and I don't smoke that much, so it's not like I'm spending a fortune, smoking is a very social thing for me, as most of my friends smoke and its alwaxs nice to smoke together, and that at certain times, when I'm out drinking or having an exam, I just need to smoke. Also, the smell doesn't bother me. So yeah, I'm really torn about that right now!

I'm a "smoke virgin"... And I'm "proud" about that... I do need to say though that (I know people don't see it as young anymore) on my age I think it's kinda young to smoke already... Most people who are frequent smokers on my age, feel a pressure to do it, I think.

You should be proud of it.
I am a smoker.
I smoke between 30 and 50 a day, and I love it.
Yeah, I know It's probably going to kill me but there's a hell of a lot of other stuff that could kill me too.
I've been smoking for nearly six years now, part of me wiches I'd never stated but I also do not want to quit.
Am I right in think that smoking is a lot more socially acceptable in England then it is in a lot of other places, like America for instance? Anyone know?

Non-smoker, would be smoke virgin except for one puff off a cig I've tried (and hated it so much that I never felt the urge to repeat the experience 😉 ).

I'm a smoker as well. I hate that it's slowly killing me and costing me money, but at the same time I really love smoking!

I hate all the anti-smoker stuff that's going on at the moment as well. Seems ludicrous to me that they're so uppity about smoking, but don't make any effort about eradicating the countless other things that slowly kill people.

I'm a smoker! Have been for about 20 years. I did manage to give up once for 3 years but started again! Now I smoke about 15 a day approximatley. I smoke more when I drink and I don't touch illegal drugs.

Ex-smoker. Though I only really smoked for about a year - more or less as a social thing - don't know if that counts.
Had my official last cigarette in May last year but since then I've smoked two cigarettes and didn't really liked the taste anymore so ... I'd rather drink a beer or two more. But I'm cool with people around me smoking as long as I'm not eating anything. I think that is, was and always will be disgusting.

I used to smoke pot occasionally but again as the social thing it should be. My last joint was on New Year's Eve 2008. I can still roll a perfect joint though x)

Eh, I'd fall somewhere between a non-smoker and an ex-smoker. I've smoked before but nothing that I think would qualify as a habit, so therefore Im not so sure I'm an ex. I gave it up after I talked to a guy who used to work for a tobacco company. It wasn't so cool after he told me some of the process of it and some of the things inside it.

would you tell me in a PM? I'm really interested, plus, it might help me with my little crisis!
*disclaimer: None of the below discussion is meant to spark a debate about the health effects; it's just my experience. Take it or leave it*

I grew up with my father smoking until I was 19, and as a result, I had chronic bronchitis that turned into pneumonia every winter. NO FUN. That's cleared up now that I don't live with him anymore, but I still have allergy attacks if I'm in an enclosed space with smoke. I can go outside with my buddies who smoke and stand a bit away from them and be fine, but I can't stay in a bar too long. Same thing happens with incense, surprisingly enough. So I'm a non-smoker, mostly because it would probably kill me instantly if I ever tried, but also because I think it's gross and I'm really not interested. 😛

I've learned you get more breaks if you're willing to have a smoke with your co-workers once inawhile.

That's how it is at my work--at a pharmacy. The girls out for about a dozen smoke breaks a day, adds up to about a whole 2nd lunch break. I need to take up some habit that calls for me to go stand outside for a few minutes at a time. I even tried starting a "Nate change bank": for every time someone goes out for a smoke, they put a quarter in my bank. It only seems fair, right? I mean, I put in my 8 hours a day, I don't have a bad habit, yet I don't get 2 breaks? Lame.

karma for being creative at work - brilliant idea :)
When I worked at the Big Red Gas Station, those of us who were non-smokers staged a protest and got the management to allow us the same five-minute sit-down breaks the smokers got. We called them our non-smoking-smoke-breaks. XD

Yeah. I have making a nice cup of tea-breaks.
I don't smoke.
Smoking seems extremely pointless to me so I never cared to start.
Haven't got any problem if others do it though. The smell in your clothes can be a bit annoying perhaps.

I hated it when smokers got more breaks. For an 8 hour shift that added up to a lot of time, and if it's a retail job or something it puts a lot of work on the non-smokers.
