Smoking

I don't smoke, but smoking has never really bothered me. If a person chooses to smoke then fair do's. The smoking ban hasn't really affected me either, seeing as I rarely go to bars and clubs and when going to restaurants I was always seated in the non-smoking area anyway.

However, a couple months ago I was having to walk to and from work everyday, walking down a narrow passage. This narrow passage, every morning and every afternoon would be filled with teenage kids smoking and drinks, and I had to literally barge my way through them. This annoyed me, as like people have said, if people want to smoke it's up to them, but I don't want to be inflicted with their stink and health problems! Urgh.

I think the hard part of that would be the places that really aren't a "private" as they seem. For instance, what about restaurants like McDonalds? Or stores like Macys? They're not government owed, so that is one definition of private, but they're not a sole-proprietor ownership, therefore not under the discretion of one mind. Where is the line drawn?

Just to clearify for a confused little brain. It´s rubbish because you should be allowed to do what ever you want with your own body or becuase smoking is legal at this point (in general)?
 
Im a smoker and i agree it should obviously be banned in public places.
 
I'm against it across the baord. In Ireland it's banned in the work place, that's anywhere people are employed. Quite frankly I think it's only fair. The thought of working in a smoke filled office all day would make me take up a stunning career as a bum! It's the individual's choice to smoke but I don't think non smokers should have to sit in that smoke because of it.

I just mean not government owned and/or operated. Limited partnerships, corporations, and other types of businesses in which responsibility is shared by multiple private citizens would, in my view, be considered private.

Smoking? Ithink eventually nicotine is going to be just like marajuana. Illegal. People will smuggle and sell it, and huddle in their houses toking up. Yup...Nicotine will be the new marajuana.
 
And the girls bathrooms at my school? disgusting! I don't know how anyone can stand to be in there. you can smell it from outside. I just hate the people in there, they're so inconsiderate, I mean, for gods sake, if you wanna smoke, just Wag! make a day of it! but leave the goddamn facilities ALONE
 
UGH. I remember being in school, & HATING to go to any bathroom, because somebody was always breaking the rules & smoking in there. And it was always such a tight, closed-in space. No windows. NO kind of ventilation. GAG.

I have been out of school for quite a long time now, and I am very happy that I work for a state facility, which in Georgia, all state facilities have a non-smoking policy. YAY! I'm lovin' it!
 
smoking is smashing, indians started the smoking (im sure) and they enjoyed and loved nuffin better than having a wee toke out in the open air. if its good enough for them ,its good enough for me..and the banter you pick up from fellow neglected outsider smokers is priceless. booyayah.

Hi...I don't think I have seen you before...
I'm an off-and-on smoker, and I completely agree with smoking bans INDOORS. Even when I'm in a house or building where I CAN smoke inside, I always go outside because I hate the smell of smoke permeating the air and then your clothes and hair start to stink. However, banning smoking in outdoor settings (except maybe on restaurant patios or something) is WAY overkill. If someone would honestly get pissy because they walk by a person and get a little whiff of cigarette smoke...well...they should get slapped.
 
Well, I'm not a smoker, although pretty much everyone in my family is. I don't think smokers should be discriminated against. I agree it is overkill to try to ban it in public places...gimmie a break. Smokers have rights too. I mean, where the hell are people sopposed to smoke?
 
After going out yesterday I once again appreciate the smoking ban, as first of all you don't smell like a tobacco field after coming home, though for some odd and peculiar reason, in a way I do, but anyhoooooeee, it's not as strong as it would have been, if there was no smoking ban in effect. However, which I though annoying was, because there were no smokers in one part of the discotheque, the DJ decided to make use of the smokemachines which kind of sucked, as I had a headache like hell anyway and then couldn't even see more than a meter a head of me. It just added to my headache scale.

Oh and quite funnily, the smoking room was nearly as cloudy, as the rest of the disco. I don't get why anybody would have to smoke, cause it's all done for you.
 
I don't smoke but my family does. It drives me nuts knowing that they are infecting me with their second hand smoke. ):
I don't care if other people smoke, just open a window and don't blow it at me. It's quite rude.
