Not cool! Snake hanging from air conditioner devours huge rat

Even with an air conditioner pumping, it’s hard to keep your cool when you see a python emerge from the unit to collect a massive rat.

That was the exact scenario for one unlucky Chinese homeowner, who captured spine-tingling footage of the serpent going full mission impossible on one unlucky rodent.

Rats are said to be the favourite snacks for the reptiles, and this snake went through great lengths to gain its meal.

The incident occurred in summer when the AC was used the most. This made people question the possibility of reptiles and rodents entering the house even through a working air conditioning system.

I have mixed feelings. On one hand I'd hate to be bitten by say a snake under the couch or bed (especially if venomous), but on the other hand I'd rather have a snake like that (assuming non-venomous) in my home than rats (and snakes are rarely malicious and will normally try to stay out of people's way). Though I'd be more hostile to one now because I have a cat, and cats (dogs, too) can sometimes be dumb enough to mess with them, and thus get bit (which can be bad even if not venomous).

I sigh at one house I used to live in (not mine, I was just a long term guest). To get rid of the rats we had to use traps. The people there used Havahart traps (and I was used to release them on the beach, though after a few times I noticed that owls, beach cats, and other critters came close when I brought another rat to release which struck me as for the best ). The house cat there was actually scared of the rats and would run from them even when they were in the cage. (Another one was less scared but incompetent, not going after the rat until it was already trapped and then would wait for the rat to come out. Too little, too late, Cat.) Good thing the cats couldn't understand me when I told them they had to turn in their "cat cards" as they were no longer allowed to be cats. 😛

A possum somehow managed to get in one night, crawling through an opening that a washer or dryer was supposed to be connected to (I forget what exactly)--I was amazed that the possum managed to squeeze through that! That was stressful to get out. And no, they don't play dead when confronted. I opened the front door and tried to chase it out (everyone else was asleep) but I think it was too scared to turn its back on me...but when I'd back away it still wouldn't go out. It was ready to fight me and I wasn't about to tangle with an angry possum (and I was worried it might be rabid). Oddly enough, it decided it had enough when the cowardly cat came in through the front door (who kept a healthy distance as he went past the possum), and the possum finally went out the front door.
