Agh, I went out to feed the horses last night and as I picked up the hay I found a tiger snake! I ran to get the owner of the property as he has saved me from snakes before and when we came back it was standing up and stricking out! :fighting1
Now I wont even leave my front door with out boots on!

(Don't forget to check your boots before you put them on.)

But this THIS is why I haven't been to Oz yet. Well that and the crocodiles in the ocean...

And go you know why you don't see sharks inland ? it's 'cos the crocodiles eat them !
We're too far down the coast for crocs (thank goodness!) Good point about checking my boots, I have found many spiders in there before! I love scaring the tourists with deadly animal stories, When you grow up with it all its not as much of a big deal, Still ya get a fright when you're inches away from a bite!

"fright" and "bite" rhyme!! lol!
That's the thing about Australia - it wants you dead. All of it. All of Australia wants you dead. The animals, the heat, the landscape... even the fish. The ****ing fish want you dead.

...

If the presence of murderous fish is not proof enough of an environment's fundamental hatred of you, I don't know what is.

Is that one poisonous? You guys have lots of poisonous ones don't you?

And bugs. OMG bugs! I've been freaking out about bugs lately since I saw this - 5 Most Horrifying Bugs

Sorry about that. I drifted OT, but that bot fly in particular is serious ickage. Another good reason to wear boots in a stable.

EUWK! I could have lived without that! Never leaving the HOUSE now!
Tiger snakes are one of the top5 deadly snakes in the world but there hasnt been a death from a bite in a long while due to fantastic antivenoms! still you will get really really ill. And our spiders are some of the most deadly aswell. yep JV.... now I think of it Australia probably does want us dead LOL
The temperature yesterday was 38 degrees celcius, I think that is over 100 farenhight??

I have a deal with the snakes around home - they don't bother me, I don't blow them into several pieces...

With bugs'n'arachnids'n'crawlies'n'things, it's a different story; there, the rule is: if it's got more than four legs, kill it!

I saw a Tiger-snake in my backyard, when I was out hang out washing once. I ran inside right away though lol. We live right next to a creek thing, so I'm not THAT surprised... Just more careful lol.

Right now I'd take that over what we had. It was -4 degrees F (haven't the slightest idea what that is in Celsius, I don't even remember the equation to find out). The windchill was -21.

OK--I looked it up and it was -20 degrees Celsius here and the windchill was -29C or so.

However you look at it--it was freaking freezing this morning.

Far out that is cold!
Faithyfivebyfive they can make ya run quick hey!?! Tigers are the scariest coz they are nasty, at least dugites nick off as fast as we do!

I used to live in the bush! Snakes and spiders galore....we had the best dogs, though....they used to kill them before we got to them (or they got to us!)

unfortunatly we lost one of our dogs to a tiger snake just before christmas. Our dogs arnt too smart, They're sposed to stay away from the bitey end! I hope all the snakes out there are smart enough to stay away from people tommorrow, Lotsa drunken macho guys are gona be asking for trouble!

Sorry to hear that 🙁 Ironically the dog we lost was named "Hero" maybe he was saving one of the kids by giving his own life. Never know.

You know...those big purplish-reddish sort of ants that attack in droves if you're unlucky enough to not watch where you're going?
Oh wow, well at least he lived up to his name I guess.

Darn snakes...though they don't bother me so much. Meat ants on the other hand....

Yes, what are meat ants? The mere name has sent me to a terrifying visual place
I don't know about the snakes in Australia, but in my part of the U S, people used to keep hogs to kill snakes (plus they make great pork chops). Rattlers, copperheads, and water moccasins were all fair game for hogs, and they were immune to the venom.

We have wild pigs here but they are worse then snakes in my opinion. As much as I dislike nasty slivery suprises they are native animals where as the boars arnt and are extremly distructive and aggressive. Probably a bit different to where you are though. Dont get me wrong I love pigs, but the nice type! not the hairy scary tusk types! heeh.
hmm off topic a bit but Im watching Angel season 2 again at the moment and was wondering if anyone knows (or knows of a thread) that discusses Darlas original name??

Of course I was talking about domestic pigs, not their feral cousins. Those things are plumb NASTY!

Yes! They can make quite a racket too - The sighting of it I experienced, was as it was on it's way into our back shed... I saw it slither in there, then all of a sudden there was all kinds of banging and commotion going on in the shed.

Who knows what happened next, I had made my escape ofcourse. 😉
