Snowmageddon headed this way!โ„๐ŸŒจ

Well the storm has pasted us now and we ending up with just a couple of inches of snow and luckily no ice but the temps are close to zero F and the wind chills are brutal. Everything is closed tomorrow, schools, churches, senior center, among other place. roads are still snow covered in spite of the road crews working non stop since Friday night. Right now we have sunny skies but there's no melting happening cuz of the temps. Power has been rock steady thankfully. We did not get hit as hard as the weather soothsayers were predicting. It's the bitter cold that's shutting everything down.

Hope the rest of you are safe and warm and you didn't get blasted with snow and ice.
 
Well the storm definitely did NOT pass us by! Officially over 10 inches of snowfall so far... ๐Ÿ˜ถโ€๐ŸŒซ๏ธโ˜ƒ๏ธ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ

This is the first time in four years that we have had over a foot of snow. It seems strange looking at a 7-foot tall Miata and an 8-foot tall Subaru.

Yeah no way my little car will drive in this! Was gonna meet GF at her place, but we're calling round for friends with SUVs!
We're just hoping that the airport will be open and we'll able to fly us to our destination! ๐Ÿคž

Good luck! Yeah, my car would take one look at that and go "Nope." Assuming I could find it, given that it's white.
As predicted, all ice and no snow. We did have a sleet storm Sat night that dropped about an inch of ice., so the yard and street were pretty much solid ice. Street has mostly thawed.

In other news two of our dogs have barricaded themselves in the kitchen and are refusing to come out until spring. Negotiations have broken down, so wife and I are preparing to storm by force.

Digging out ice. It looks like snow but it sleeted on it all day so now it is like rocks. Or concrete. Instead of doing 100 feet (we are the end house of row houses so we have a lot more sidewalk) i was able to do 10 -- also dug 40 ft from back door to alley to sidewalk so post can deliver (back porch is covered). Usually i could do the whole thing in less t8me than i took t9 do the short bits This time me and hubby barely got the minimum and it HURT.

Oh and nothing is thawing. No above freezing day temp. Currently 20F. Night is single digits; rare around here. Average normal winter days here are 40s-50s.

The phone company forced us to remove the copper service, which did not require power so landlines now depend on small (D cells) power brick they gave us which will probably last at best several hours. It is not rechargeable.

The reliable power land line is gone forever even though we have one phone that stayed corded just for emergencies it is now useless.

The phone company fought congress for the right to "upgrade" us even if we did not buy Fios, even though in emergency it was far easier to keep a phone exchange powered than houses with downed power lines (They had giant batteries).

I miss POTS (Plain old telephone service) - In a weather or national emergency we will be cut off.

I am one of the few people I know who still has a landline, possibly even the only one, and I had to opt in to keep it. Recently, the phone company did some updates, so now all landlines go through the internet optical fibre, and they got rid of a lot of landlines at that time. I kept mine because to make a decent mobile call I had to step outside the house thanks to poor reception. So, even though I have a landline, it's now not a dedicated one. Which puts me in a similar position.
 
We recently updated our internet service from a landline DSL thru the phone company to a fiber optic system they recently installed in our subdivision. We also switched our phone service to them as it would save us about $100 a month. The only drawback is that if the power goes out we'll also lose phone service. So far it hasn't been an issue.
