Even though we already know that Snyder does not like Buffy or come to that any of those in his charge, but more so Buffy and her friends. It is in this episode that we learn that he is going to do whatever he can to expel her. I think we can all agree that no matter what or how good Buffy did for the parent evening (even if it were perfect) he was going to find fault and cause problems for her.
 
Definitely. I think The Mayor had already briefed Snyder on the need to get Buffy out of the school there...
 
Concur. I thought he was a jerk through out that episode and it sucks because Buffy tried so hard to do okay. I love when Willow tastes the lemonade, realizes there is no sugar in it and offers it to Cordy. Hilarious.
 
I don't if anyone noticed but after this episode Snyder increased his attacks and attempts at getting rid of her and that's after she saved his life!
 
We learn that Snyder knows more about what is going on in Sunnydale(or underneath it) at the end when he is talking to the police ("gang members on PCP") than he is willing to let on. That there is something besides the normal urban problems at work. Likely he was brought in because it was felt he could keep a secret.
Interesting point raised here. Has he indeed been told by those running the city that Buffy is something more than just a trouble-making student?

It's quite possible that Snyder was picked specifically by Wilkins to make life tough on Buffy, probably on the hopes of convincing Joyce to pack up and leave Sunnydale. That's the kind of devious, long term plan that would appeal to him. And Snyder's the type of little toad who would do it, no questions asked, just to curr get ai good with the guy in charge.

Snyder definitely knew more than he was letting on. In an episode when there were snakes in the cafeteria (the name of the episode escapes me) he said to a cop, " We live on a hell mouth" so I'm guessing the authority figures of Sunnydale also knew about the Hell Mouth.

I wonder...does he know about slayers?
 
I'm not so sure that the mayor or anyone else had put pressure on Snyder to get rid of her so much as he absolutely detested disorder of any kind and a student with Buffy's record was sure to incur his wrath to no end. Think about it, Snyder hatred with disorder was so great that he actually threatened the giant snake mayor without much thought of consequences. Also, if he had orders to disrupt the slayer, he would have almost certainly have canned Giles with little thought.

Like he said at the Beginning of School Hard, Buffy was neck and neck with a girl who had a history of stabbing teachers with the worst record in the school. Whenever something bad happened at Sunnydale High, chances are Buffy Summers was always suspiciously around.
 
You have a point about Giles... If Snyder had known Buffy was a Slayer and if the Mayor had told him they needed to get rid of her, I'm sure Giles would have been fired immediately. But maybe the Mayor didn't know about Giles and his role in Buffy's life, either...

On the other hand, the was his immediate reaction of "Call the mayor, tell him I have good news" (in Becoming? or am I mixing smth up?) when he thought he'd gotten Buffy booted out of school for good. Since when does a town's mayor care about troublemaker students in the local highschool enough to make this "good news" warranting an immediate phonecall to his office?
 
Caught Armin Shimmerman on an old ep of Remmington Steel yesterday, acting as an accountant posing as a writer. Also seen Kristine Sutherland AND Harry Groener on this excellent show
 
lmao! He is annoying but he serves a good role so I love him. Also he is funny like hell, not just by looks but the way he delivers his lines and how petty and sour he is as a person.
It's prizeless when Buffy says "You never had a single date in high school did you?"

I am shocked, appalled, outraged, and mortified that Principal Snyder does not have his own category! I will be writing a letter to management immediately! (hehe, j/k of course)

I'm glad someone else loves Snyder. I thought he was brilliant! My favorite part (Season 3 spoiler alert) is when he starts handing out detentions/punishments when the "war" breaks out after the Mayor gives his speech. Love it!!

My favorite Snyder line:

Definitely.. There is no possible way for Buffy to satisfy Snyder. But I kinda love Snyder anyway.. xD He is hilarious.. in a weird, annoying way.

It just occurred to me that Spike's raid on the school very likely kept Buffy from being expelled, since the disturbance took all focus away from whether the school night was a success or not. This is the very first example of Spike covering Buffy's back.
