So "After the Fall" IS season 6!

That's what every news update about it is saying. If the sales of buffy season 8 are any consolation, I'm sure it will go beyond the alloted what, 12 issues? Somewhere around there anyways.
 
I don't know about every news update calling it Season 6. Gotta link?

This Joss interview from April is the closest I've heard to the connection to season 6.

NRAMA: Without spoiling anything, can you give fans any idea of what they can expect to see, or not see, in the comic?

JW: Season six—that is, the storyline we were planning to pursue—made much more epic and fleshed out quite a bit. We're looking at it as a 12-issue miniseries, to keep it tight and intense. Brian and I have been exchanging juicy ideas. And some that are more bran-y. For health.

NRAMA: Finally, when the show itself ended, did you have an idea in your head of where things would go? Did you know all along who would, or wouldn’t, survive that fight in the alley?

JW: I've always known exactly, unless someone brings me a better idea. (It was Jeff Bell and the Angel staff who pitched me Wesley's death—once we knew we'd got the chop.) The better idea makes it to the canon. But the line up is pretty much what I planned. It's not pretty.

IDWEEK: JOSS WHEDON TALKS ANGEL, AFTER THE FALL - NEWSARAMA

I'm pretty sure there's another Joss interview out there where he says it isn't Season 6 in the way Buffy is season 8, but I can't remember where it is, or what exactly the point was.
 
I thought it had been said and was quite obvious to everyone that After The Fall is season 6 =|
 
Seems like this is just kind of a technical, formal argument.

It was uncertain if the series would be strict canon in the same vein as Buffy. “It will definitely use Season 6’s proposed stories as inspiration, but it's not exactly Season 6.” According to Whedon, the lack of budget constraints allows Angel’s world to expand in ways that were never possible with the television series.

Westfield: To borrow what Dark Horse is doing with Buffy, are you looking at this as Angel Season 6?

Lynch: It's not so much a season. It's one giant story as opposed to a bunch of smaller stories that build up to a bigger arc as the series goes on. This is one big story arc that goes for over a year. It feels more like the Angel movie, but it's actually so long it's probably the Angel trilogy of movies. A lot happens. It's like our Lord of the Rings, except we'll only have one ending.

If Joss had had his way and continued the series with a number of Television Movies, you wouldn't have called that Season 6... would you? Even though it would still have been a continuation.

Even though I agree with you that it is Season 6 in a way. It is also NOT season 6, in a sense that it is very different from what the TV's season 6 would have been. There are similarities, sure. But I get the feeling that After the Fall is only the first arc of Angel potential Season 6.

Yeah, it's kind of more like a season 6 maxi-series.
Grrr...they keep tempting me to start reading comics. First a season eight of Buffy, now a sort-of season six of Angel. Although I'm much more likely to pick up the Angel comics after they're all released since I feel that Buffy ended perfectly and I don't consider "Not Fade Away" a series finale...it's a season finale that serves as a series finale since the show got yanked. 🙂

Couldn't agree more

Now i guess i'll have to go get every comic read them all and then wait excitedly for newer ones :lmao:
