For anyone not following this case, Gina Carano finally won her court case against Disney. It wasn't a total victory. It never was going to be and anyone who thought it was, is being naive. She settled with a big win and a public apology with Disney having to admit that she is a wonderful person and publicly say they want to work with her again, which given how they slandered her before is pretty humiliating for them. It was basically like Alan Partridge having to admit that Roger Moore wasn't a towel thief after he slanders him as such.
“The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”
Her name is cleared and she can go on to be in more things now. I've been a huge admirer and supporter of Gina throughout this case. I think the way she was treated was utterly shameful and one of the worst cases of double standards I've ever seen, particularly against a woman. I was banned for life from reddit for defending her, fired from a job with big glasgow comic con, and called all manner of hateful things for it. On the plus side though Gina herself started following me which was AWESOME.
Still glad that these people have been exposed. It was laughable that she was accused of being LGBT phobic. Leaving aside that it doesn't matter what an actors politics are, (Schwarzanegger was a member of the Bush administration that I despised and I still love his movies.) That view could not be further from the truth. She actually has a very positive history with LGBT people. Overall she's not even that right wing. She's I would say centre right. She definitely leans on the republican side for COVID and free speech (which is understandable as the left bit her head off.) Meanwhile for economic politics she is a bit neutral as she hasn't really commented on them, whilst socially she is very progressive as seen with her status as a pioneer for women in a male dominated area and as we'll see here her history with LGBT people.
As a teenager she used to dog off school in a gay bar that was right next to her school where she became friends with the patrons. Remember this is the 90s, back when jokes about gay people were common on tv. Not many teenagers would have spent most of their time in a gay club.
She also had a very close friendship with Tonya Evinger an openly lesbian woman in the 00s (again a time when homosexuality was more taboo. This was two years after Arnie who isn't even viewed as homophobic veteod a gay marriage bill) and supported her through bad times, with their friendship being so close, people thought Gina was bisexual. Ultimately Tonya shot those rumours down, but she did have feelings for Gina and still values her support to this day.

I might add again she follows me on twitter and I have brought all this up lots of times in defense of her and so she clearly has 0 issue with this argument being used to defend her.
So yeah overall I wouldn't say this woman is LGBTphobic. After that she put beep boop bop in as a jokey reference to Star Wars and then when some of her friends said it could be seen as offensive, she took it down and apologised. That's it! Yet 5 years on that must overshadow everything about her and she must be treated like Jerry Fallwell? It's insane.

She talked about people being othered for their politics. Second, even if she had compared her enemies to the Nazis, so what? Everybody does it. FFS Cordelia in what's supposed to be a feisty moment calls Snyder a tiny impotent Nazi! Is that her trivializing the holocaust by comparing it to a jobsworth arsehole teacher? You wouldn't even notice this with other people.
Hilariously Curb Your Enthusiasm did an episode with this as a premise decades ago when Larry David jokingly calls his wife Hitler and Jeff's parents overhear and despise him forever for that. They were MEANT to be the bad guys there.
The amount of people who were sheep and just went along with that because disney said so sickened me, but thankfully Gina's come out the other end and we can now enjoy her talent as an action star.
