Well shes not really a pony - 17hh so she is a massive big horse 😛

Anyway I am so proud of her. We had our first show today, just an unofficial gymkhana, but still her first show outing and my first show in years. She was so well behaved, and calm in a busy and crowded show situation. We didnt get great results in the hacking but I was really pleased with her performance.
We came 2nd in the rider class
3rd in Best ridden 'other colour' over 16hh
We did some games just for fun and came first in both barrel racing and the can race which was a bit of a laugh because she is really too big to do bendy games 🙂
We also entered the show jumping, our first time ever actually attempting to jump a full course and we won it!! There were so many other people I didnt think we had a chance and was so shocked when we won! (it was only 60cms - but still I was stoked!!) We also entered the 75cm and went clear, she was so good but we didnt place in that one.

I just had to share my joy!

Where's the piccie? She sounds lovely!
Congratulations! I rode in only 2 shows in my life, but how exciting it can be. 17 hands IS big, especially for mare What is she, a Thoroughbred? Mine was a Tennessee Walker, a Golden Palomino, and we only competed in Pleasure Riding a couple of times. We rode in parades quite a bit, because Palominos are so impressive but mostly we just rode the back trails of our county (back then, there were plenty of unpaved roads up in the mountains within close to where we lived, so I could saddle up at home and ride all day, just me, Doc, and my Pit Bulldog, who went everywhere I did. Those were great days!. From one horseman to another, happy trails!

Went riding a Pally today :) They are stunning to look at :)
Hey Aussie, I have to agree with you 17hh is a tad high for a pony. 17 hh isn't massive though, an adult Shire horse, now that's massive.
I used to take my daughter horse riding when she was about 4 or 5 years old, she learnt to ride on a 16hh horse.
If you've ever read the Thelwell's Riding Academy series of books you'll know what she looked like on the horse.
About your horse, what type is she ?

Thanks guys 🙂
My mare is an 1st cross Andalusion Thoroughbred, so she is stocky and tall so she looks quite impressive. She is black with a white star, very nice to look at and ride when she behaves! Typical mare really! My last mare was 14hh so a big jump on to Paloma.
WA all I have done with Paloma before now was trail riding, we love going for our hoons 😛 It is really fun isnt it? I love a relaxing bushride.
Illyrian I havent read the Thelwells Riding Acadamy books, but I can imagine a small girl on a 16hh horse!! Loma was close to the biggest horse there, there was a big grey TB doing the SJ that was apparantly 17.1hh but I rekon Loma was bigger than him.
I saw the funniest horse - almost a mini type shire! It was about 15hh but so stocky and about as long as a full size clydie. The rider said he was a clydie cross quater horse, He took out the hunter class no probs!

aww congrats! Gosh I miss ridding! Sounds like your mare has a fantastic temperment! always easier to do the shows with a horse with a great temperment! I never owned my own horse...I was part of a camp we got assigned our horses and each term we would compete with that horse...I remember I had BO once...no one wanted to get BO because he was a jerk to ride...you had to establish a report with him and he didnt trust people...it was a pain to train with him but believe it or not the second term he did fantastic and I was actually sad when I didnt get assigned to him again. The girl that got him had a time working with him...guess his issue was that he got tossed around and he was a bit bitter 😛 Horses really do bond with their human companions just as a true horse lover bonds with them.

Thankyou! Un fortunatly the judge didnt agree, either that or she was blind!
She is pulling the funniest face in the first pic. I cant wait to see some more, maybe she was giving evils to the judge! 😀
Thankyou all for your kind comments, made me smile.

That would be the horse equivalent to giving the judge the single finger salute, and serves the judge right.....giving the prize of best looking horse to another.

Different Pony but still Proud!!

We went to another hack show today, Unfortuatly I didnt take Loma, but instead a pony that I am training for Riding for the Disabled named 'Cricket'. He was a neglet/rescue case, we have had him for a few months now and he is very fat and happy. This was also his first show and after the rider class he settled down really well and went around like an old hand at it. We placed in every class which was much better then I expected as I littrally pulled him out of the paddock and gave him a bath and went to the show!
We got 3rd in the rider class, 4th in galloway 14.2hh - 15hh, 3rd in light/me/heavy weight galloway, 3rd in pleasure galloway, 3rd in best educated galloway. Here is a pic of him -
