So this is my problem...

Second season is alot better than the first.. it has much more progression and better arch. But still lacks really any character development. But yes, the humor and wit was sorely missed. The ending is pants and felt a bit rushed but I think he was trying to give a sense of closure.
 
I haven't watched Firefly for the same reasons as you. I heard there's some un-answered questions that Joss left open in case of a second movie. So untill Joss tells the fans or a second movie is made I won't be watching Firefly.

Dollhouse is a good show. Not the best. The last half of season 2 feels a little rushed to be honest and some plot twists are unbelievable (in a bad way)
 
Lack of character development?! Wow, you guys must've watched a different show than I did. Adelle, Topher, Echo- these characters especially went to amazing and surprising places.
