So what age is best to start Buffy?

I love Gilmore Girls! And I started watching that when I was like 15-16. I agree you need to be older, because even the teenagers in that show act older than they are, so it's not very relatable for a younger audience. Yea Spuffy is really the main concern, maybe a few of the sex scenes with Riley, just cause it's sex. And I don't think 8 year olds should be watching that.

This is true. And if you tell kids not to watch it they will want to.

Yea I think that's young to be watching the whole show. Maybe s1. and a few of the lighter, comedy episodes.

They may want to but if you're a good parent then you don't have to let them get what they want. Also at that sort of age I don't think their going to make a massive deal over not being able to watch a TV show they might have a little hissy fit then move on.

It is too young, don't forget Season 1 has that child abuse episode as well as well the Pack which brings up issues of Rape and is dark anyway. Thats the thing even though we don't consider Buffy as dark as some TV shows if you look at it as a whole there is really a lot of disturbing stuff in it. I think 11 would be the youngest I would let a child watch it.

I know its been a long time so you might now remember what it's like. 😉 But I was totally the kid who would stay up late and watch shows on TV that I knew I shouldn't be watching. If kids want to see it, they will see it. Especially with internet now days. Even if you don't allow your child to watch certain things they still have friends and can go over to their house. My sister lets my niece watch Supernatural and shes almost 12. With parents you can't be to overbearing, you just have to guide them properly and make sure they know right from wrong. Even though I loved Faith and wanted to be cool like her (before she turned evil), I obviously knew I couldn't go around killing people or having random sex. I was also watching Angel at the time and that's a dark show too.

You are right though the show isn't constantly dark but it does have a lot of really deep and disturbing things in it that are scattered throughout. I did forget bout The Pack.

I get what you mean but you were talking about 8 or 9 year olds I actually don't think they would be hanging with kids who watch Buffy, or be that desparate to see it at that age. You do have be a bit careful someone I know let her young sons watch Dexter and that was way too much. But it is true I mean I used to watch violent martial arts films with my brother at like age 8 and it didn't do me any halm. I think guiding them properly is the thing.

I was 13 when I started watching BtVS, which was when the show debuted on BBC2, WAY back in the day. I think that was the perfect age, because it meant that I literally grew up with these characters, which I think was perfect, because it exposed me to certain situations at an impressionable age and allowed me to have an open mind and shaped my personality.

However, nowadays, newbies aren't going to watch the show the way we did. They're not going to watch one episode a week with huge breaks in between. They're going to binge and get through the entire show in just a few months, probably less, and in that case, I think 13 is way too young to watch. Not only because certain things are going to go over their heads, but I don't feel comfortable showing 'Seeing Red' or Where the Wild Things Are' to a 13 year old.

Right now, I would say stick to the age limit that's on the boxsets - 15 - but even then I think that could be too young.
