So, what really happened there?

I'm talking about the scene where Buffy goes down the basement stairs, Spike is sitting on his cot looking at the amulet, then sees Buffy come in. He stands up, he and Buffy just stand in front of each other and stare. Then it fades out.

Joss said he wanted to leave it to the fans' imagination to decide what happened there after it fades out: "if fans think they made love, that's great!"
But he never gave his final answer, probably never will. But I couldn't not think about it, what really happened there. I honestly can't answer that. Because my Spuffy in me wants to believe they made love. But then I think that if they did, they would have mention it somehoe to each other, or give hints about it. Maybe Buffy would have said when she saw Spike is going to die: "You can't do this to me! We made love, it was the best night of my life and now you're leaving me?!" Or something like that. So I tend to think they spent the night together again like the last nights, maybe cuddle, maybe talked their deep feelings out...

So what do you really think happened there, from the moment they stood in front of each other and stared, till the next time we see them?

Well first he gets Buffy some mints for her 'angel breath'...

I really like you. Oh that Spike, gotta get rid of nasty Angel breath. I feel him!
In Joss' commentary about that scene, he said that he purposely left it ambiguous, so that the individual watcher could fill in their own blanks there. For a long time, I liked to imagine that Buffy and Spike had another bout of bringing the house down adult fun, only without being so destructive, and not missing the bed this time. That changed, after awhile, to much more gentle, for the first time actually romantic, actual, for the first time, love making. Recently, however, I'm beginning to fantasize about the two of them spending the night just talking, actually communicating for the first time. Maybe Buffy explained why she actually sent Angel away, why she had named Spike as her Champion. Maybe they talked more about that "I'm not ready for you to not be here," comment that Buffy made, or how grateful she was (to the best of my knowledge, she never actually said it) for Spike staying and taking care of Dawn and her friends during the time after the final battle with Glory, especially when none of those friends ever trusted him. He could just as easily gone off to a Tibetan monastery to brood all summer like that other vampire did, but Spike had made a promise to a lady, and he kept that promise.

Maybe they talked about what was going to happen after this next battle, about how Buffy would need help assembling, organizing, and training her army, and how she wanted Spike to be a part of that, to share her work and her life, the way that he had been doing for the past year. Maybe they even talked about cookie dough, and warm, fresh cookies. Maybe Spike just told Buffy stories about growing up in England, about, like her, he had lost his mother. About being alienated from those around him because he wasn't like them. About his dreams of being a hero, of being the Champion of a beautiful lady, of giving his life in her service.

Or maybe they played checkers all night. Ultimately, it doesn't really matter.

What really matters to me is that, knowing bthat one or both of them might not survive the next day's battle, they chose to spend that last night together.

I like the idea of them really talking...no holding back, bearing their souls, real talking.
I think they talked - really talked about all the crap they'd been through together and it was cathartic and good and meant that they could die with nothing left on their respective chests. I reckon they would have talked tactics a bit and perhaps Spike would of told her a few sordid tales from "back in the day". Then, probably they made out a bit (but i don't think they had sex or made with the lurvve) and then finally, in the wee small hours of the morning, they fell asleep in each others arms 🙂

I like to think that they just cuddled. They did enough love-making in the past, so I like the idea of continuing the whole being close to each other thing. 🙂 I think that's nice!

I've wondered about it more than once but no matter what they did, I'm happy. It could have been the last night of her life and she chose to spend it with Spike. Still... issue 37 of S8 Buffy's fantasies about sex with Spike seem to be very sweet and intimate, unlike their wild and destructive in S6 so I'm going to take a very long stretch and count that as proof that they made love in "Chosen."

Well, at least I admit that it's a stretch... 😱

Or that they didn't, and Buffy has really regretted it all this time.

not such a stretch - I could get on board with your theory :)
I choose to believe that all they did was talk, though this could just stem from my extreme hatred for Spike and my denial that most of the events in season 6 happened, so even if they showed them having sex in the scene I still would only believe that they talked... 😛

Well, when I see Buffy having sex with others, I picture her doing it with Spike :)
I love how they left it to our imagination. My personal opinion on the matter is that they just rested together. Yes, no sex involved! 😉

same here :)
I absolutely love how Joss left the scene ambiguous. 🙂 But, if we're imagining how the scene may have continued, here's how it goes in my mind. After Buffy comes down the stairs, and she and Spike stare into each other eyes, she walks over to Spike and hugs him like she won't ever let go. Spike's a little taken aback with Buffy's affection, but hugs her back like there's no tomorrow (because there's a good chance there won't be). I then like to think they simply talked, cuddled, and shared some soft, gentle kisses. 🙂

i like how they knew in the back of their minds that it would be the end tomorrow at least in some way. so they just made it a beautiful night together <33
So what do you really think happened there, from the moment they stood in front of each other and stared, till the next time we see them?

For a long time I wanted to believe they made love, but now that I re-evaluate my own thoughts on the scene and Joss leaving it open to anyone's interpretation as well as your shared thoughts and opinions - I'm starting to think that I would have rather these two spend their last night just talking and really getting intimate with one another - not necessarily involving sex, but emotional intimacy. For me, that's so much more than just a physical being together, much more depth and connection to be shared.

And I want to believe that they talked about all of the things that White_Avenger mentioned and maybe hugged one another like StarSlayer said. If they spent that last night with one another the way they spent that night together in Touched, then I could be very okay with that because what really matters here is that Buffy chose to spend her last night with Spike (after having an "I sent Angel away party") and they spent it TOGETHER because it's what they BOTH wanted because they were with WHO THEY wanted to be with.

For a Spuffy shipper, that is enough for me.

I never got the impression that they had sex. It was very reminiscent of the scene where Buffy asked Spike just to hold her. It was a tender moment, i always envisioned just some holding between them.

No sex involved. They just spent the night holding eachother and maybe a little gentle kissing. Definitely alot of snuggling and looking into each others eyes, talking about their feelings. No sex but in my opinion that is more intimate and a perfect moment for them to share their love for eachother.

Spuffy LOVE

So what happened there

Ok my take since it is left up to me to decide my dream ending for Spuffy.

Season 7 takes Spuffy to a new level for me no rock em sock em sex scenes. There is a growing tenderness between Buffy and Spike "I am not ready not to let you go". Touched that moment after the "hellva women" speech IMHO the night holding her it is the first time Buffy trusts Spike, and that was the missing component for me in their relationship. In chosen, the scene were they just look at each other that is a moment and in my Spuffy fantasy she realises that she loves him, and they make love not the building crashing sex of Smashed. In the final scene "no you don't" irony I think he knows she love him but makes it easier for her to go after he has died a hero

But would love other people perspective too

As much as I wish that Spike and Buffy rekindled their sexual romance, I do not believe it happened in Chosen :-(.

I think that in End Of Days when Spike made this comment:

SPIKE: Yeah, I hear you say it but? I've lived for soddin' ever, Buffy. I've done everything. I've done things with you I can't spell? but I've never been close to anyone. Least of all you. Until last night. All I did was hold you, watch you sleep, and it was the best night of my life. So yeah, I'm terrified.

This quote made me positive they did not have sex later on that night. The fact that both of them were SO happy and content with just plain holding eachother was enough to make them fall in love, I don't see why they would rush into sex.

Just lots of snuggles, IMO 🙂

I think they did the cuddling/talking thing in Touched. I know what happened in Chosen in MY brain. It only took them about...oh, an hour or so. Then they talked and snuggled. lol

I don't think that Spike and Buffy had sex in Chosen. I like to think that they talked through everything. Their past relationship, Angel, Buffy's past, Spike's past. And I think they also would have just laid down together and look into each others eyes and maybe some gentle kissing.
