I had been under the impression that ownership of the Buffy franchise went something like this:
Fox owns the TV series... the physical episodes, the DVD sets, etc.
But the characters and the setting belong to Joss/Mutant Enemy, and he can do anything with them he likes outside of TV. (And the Kuzuis own a piece too, but they have no creative input and their only role is to collect royalty checks.)
But looking at the copyright page of the comics, I see:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, TM & (c) 2009 Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation. All rights reserved.
There is no mention of Joss or Mutant Enemy.
So, what's the deal? Does Joss need Fox's permission to do anything Buffy-related? Can Fox veto his projects outside of TV? Can Fox go ahead and do their own cash-ins on Buffy without Joss's permission?
