A former Amazon Manager swindled the company out of nearly ten million dollars. She might've gotten away with it if she hadn't bought a mansion and expensive cars. Oh, and she drove the cars to work...the place she stole the money from. What an idiot. 😄

Here's a question for all the unscrupulous, money hungry, dishonest people here: If you'd stolen that much money, what would be your next step? I'd get a new identity and move to another country. 😁 What about you?

In fairness, upon reading the article it appears the $9.5 mil was split up among 7 people total. So only about $1.35 million each. They may have been hoping to up the take and stayed, resulting in getting caught (not that driving a Lamborghini wasn't suspicious).

So, pushing aside the fact that there's no way I'd ever steal that money because I have too many morals and also having to leave my entire life behind in order to keep the money would be too difficult....

Definitely get a new identity and move to a different country. That is the only correct answer here.
The good news is with that much money surely you'd be able to find someone to make you some damn good fake documents! I'd have to go somewhere that no one's ever heard me express interest in before... so that automatically excludes anywhere in North America, The UK, the Netherlands, Iceland, and India... 🤔 hmmmmmmm

So, this is totally not proof that I've put any thought into the matter and totally not advice about what to do.

Revenue organisations aren't stupid. Don't go buying expensive doodads with money that has no discernible origin. Don't go buying really expensive ones that would require you to have stolen ten times as much to afford.

If moving to another country, go somewhere where a million dollars goes a long, long way.

@Miss Muffet 's suggestion about a diner is a decent one. In Breaking Bad, they bought a car wash. Businesses that deal in a lot of cash, but have little stock - coin-op laundrettes, arcades, stuff like that - are great for laundering cash through. But you need to be careful how much you put through; again, revenue organisations aren't stupid. They have details on the sort of margins most company types are expected to have; don't exceed them by too much. Laundering the money gradually will lose some to taxes etc., but it will be clean money at the end of it.

But I haven't put any thought into this at all.
