Some possible Buffy fan-fiction: the Powers-that-Be and their own version of "vampires"

I've thought about this issue for awhile, and I've been wondering: if the last pure demon fed off of a human being, creating a vampire, why couldn't one of the Powers do the same?

I'd imagine the human under the influence of one of the Powers would keep his or her soul, simply because the Powers are (more or less) benevolent beings, and the closest things to angels that we have on Buffy or Angel. This is just my own imagination going, but I would imagine these hybrids would be able to appear in the sunlight or at night, would not die by a stake through the heart, and would nevertheless possess the same strength, speed, and immorality as vampires. The only way to kill a Power-hybrid would be through decapitation or an excess of fire.

While these are seen as advantages over vampires, the disadvantage would be that there are very few Power-human hybrids. This would be because of the reluctance of the latter to create another Power-human hybrids (still working on a name), since such beings only seek out the most righteous humans to combat the vampires and other forces of darkness. Otherwise, we might have some rogue hybrids on our hands. Make sense?

Anyway, what do you all think? Is it too much, or would it provide an interesting new development in the Buffy-verse that, while old, has not yet been discovered? I could see Buffy fighting one of these Power-human hybrids, while neither realizes they're fighting on the same side.

By the way, I'm thinking "Nephilim" might be a good term for these Power-human hybrids. It's a Biblical term that seems to indicate (according to some, though I don't agree) that a number of angels had relations with women. Their offspring were the Nephilim.

Hmm...it's certainly an interesting idea. Though it's kind of what Buffy is supposed to be - this half human, half super power to fight evil. And also Whistler is somewhat along those lines.

Maybe the act of feeding off of someone is a (moral?)violation and an act of debasement, (maybe kind of like necromancy in the Buffyverse) and that nothing good ever comes from the act of feeding on someone no matter who does it, so perhaps as a result you never get people who keep their souls, even if it was one of the Powers who fed on someone, so they always turn out twisted. Just like necromancy, no matter how you go into it and no matter what your intentions, the end result is always a twisted abomination (although there is Willow bringing back Buffy...although I see that as fate/powers that be intervening). So I don't know, I don't think I'd consider your idea possible on these grounds maybe.

I was never entirely certain on Angel that the "Powers That Be" were the good guys - we see occasional intervention with supernatural power but in the Jossverse, that is usually a bad thing. After all, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. They seem to be non-malicious, but then so are the lawyers at Wolfram & Hart and we know whose side they were on and what realm the Senior Partners served. As we can see, the Powers That Be did not devote themselves to the fight against evil except when called upon and then only with restrictions.

I have never heard of the idea that the powers of good would take over or assume control of someone. That would be as intrusive as Willow giving Tara the spell that caused her to forget their argument. The other people who used power to accomplish something were the original men who created the first slayer and although they did accomplish something for the "greater good", they could not be considered good. Indeed, the energy they tapped was considered demonic by Buffy who refused to accept an additional hit of extra power from them in Season 7. Perhaps the story would be finding out just what agenda and capabilities the Powers That Be had.

Wasn't Whistler's actual job revealed in Season 9's "Angel & Faith" to be, not so much Good as simply a balancing agent between both Good and Evil, seeing that neither one is ever allowed to take total control of the universe? If that is so, and Whistler is an agent of the Powers, then it would seem logical to assume that they are neither good nor evil, but more like neutral referees.
