in angel, all of a sudden when hes evil he name is angelous. i always thought that was just his full name.

buffy sent angel to that hell demention for so long that he lost his mind and became like an animal and they never mention it again. tho now that i think about it alot of that doesnt make sence. lol. like his beard and hair didnt grow...and he must have been drinking somethings blood cuz he wasnt starving. but ya if he was gone so long that he lost all his memory then he must of been gone like a thousand years but its never mentioned again but he can remember his vamp youth clear as a bell.

conner sucked (i didnt like dawn either. i think adding a charecter like that is dumb)

i didnt buy the love story between angel and cordy

you see angel pretty happy alot and he doesnt become evil. like wouldnt seeing your new born sun be one of those moments of "true happieness". like screwing buffy made him happier then having a sun? weird

and this one isnt just from angel but its a big one. if its so easy to cast that spell on angel to give him his soul why dont they just do it to like every vampire?

Liam is his name. Angelus is his (evil) vampire name. And using Angel as a name is probably just a way to show that he's not the soulless vampire he once was but still neither human.

I'd say he was very happy to be able to be in the sun but from that to true happiness there's still some way to go. The same goes for for other times he's happy. Being happy don't mean truly happy.

As Buffy said a lot of things was going on that distracted Angel pretty good and at the same time I think he was quite worried about his ability to be a good dad to be as happy as he needed to be to lose his soul.

As for Liam I don't trust my memory but it should have been seen on his tombstone right? And maybe mentioned a few other times.

ya maybe...i just think he was pretty happy taking care of him and everything....i cant think of any other examples right now but he was definetly happy a few times.

he had a tombstone?

It wasn't "screwing" Buffy that lead to his "perfect happiness" moment. He just said "I love you" for what was probably the first time in his life (he confessed in Earshot that she is the only person he had ever truly loved). While he had definitely had sex before, sex with Buffy was his first time making love. He was moved by the fact that she loved him and that she trusted him enough to be her first. Expressing their love for each other and making love and falling asleep in each other's arms, it was the first time Angel really connected with someone and probably felt human.

I think he was too fearful of Connor being hurt to experience "perfect happiness" at his birth. Darla just staked herself for Connor to be born and because she knew that the second his soul wasn't connected to hers she would try to murder him. Holtz was waiting in the wings with a crossbow.

Angel felt immense guilt over his actions as Angelus and works hard to atone for his past. I can't see anyone thinking its a good idea to force thousands or millions of others to feel self-hatred and disgust by giving them souls after they have tortured, raped, and murdered innocent people.

- Well his name is Liam, Angelus have been his "evil" name, he named himself Angel after he got his soul, he introduced himself to Buffy as Angel for the first time.

buffy sent angel to that hell demention for so long that he lost his mind and became like an animal and they never mention it again. tho now that i think about it alot of that doesnt make sence. lol. like his beard and hair didnt grow...and he must have been drinking somethings blood cuz he wasnt starving. but ya if he was gone so long that he lost all his memory then he must of been gone like a thousand years but its never mentioned again but he can remember his vamp youth clear as a bell.

- Well I think they have never mentioned it again because it was too hard on Buffy, but Giles did said a lot about it when Buffy asked him how would Angel act if he got back from Hell. Well, hair never grew on him because he's dead. In Hell or on Earth, he's dead, and hair doesn't grow on dead people 😀

conner sucked (i didnt like dawn either. i think adding a charecter like that is dumb)

- Ok, that's what most people think 😀 but they have few lovers 🙂

i didnt buy the love story between angel and cordy

- Some did, some didn't, include me on the second category 🙂

- Well, moment of true happiness is defined like something else. Connection with other person.

- Because their intention is to kill all vampires, not to cure them or something. I mean, what would be the point of souled unded "people" walking on Earth? :/

GrrArghx3 agrees: Actually, your hair AND your nails grow long after you die 🙂

Yeah, when you are a corpse. But they were living and dead. Well, I think that was said on BtVS, that vampires don't grow hair :/

I've heard the complaint about "Why wasn't he perfectly happy when Connor was born?" before and all I can say is, did you actually pay attention to what went on in the episode?

definitely agreed!!!
If he'd had a normal child in a normal circumstance, maybe he'd have had his soul zapped. But yeah, with everything else going on and all the stress and fear, the baby being born by his mother's suicide in a dark alley with people all around who wanted to kill the baby or steal him...yeah. Not what pure bliss is made of, really.

While he was a Vampire (of the evil variety) his name was Angelous. I always assumed that once he got his soul, he went with the softer moniker.

buffy sent angel to that hell demention for so long that he lost his mind and became like an animal and they never mention it again. tho now that i think about it alot of that doesnt make sence. lol. like his beard and hair didnt grow...and he must have been drinking somethings blood cuz he wasnt starving. but ya if he was gone so long that he lost all his memory then he must of been gone like a thousand years but its never mentioned again but he can remember his vamp youth clear as a bell.

They DO mention it throughout each of the series. Granted, it's subtle and it isnt generally followed by moping. But Angel mentions that he'd spent time in Hell several times... like "Been there, done that" jokes and such. And I do believe Buffy mentions it off handedly quite a few times as well.

conner sucked (i didnt like dawn either. i think adding a charecter like that is dumb)

Not a fan of them either.

i didnt buy the love story between angel and cordy.

I dont know. I think it had more to do with extreme respect than anything else. They'd fought side by side together for so long... Cordy had gone through so many changes, she had matured. I think it was more about a deep respectful Love, than a strictly romantic one. In that sense, I do buy it.

While I do think that seeing your new born SON would be cause for absolute happiness, Darla died in the same moment of his birth, so how could he possibly be completely happy. So many forces were working against him at that point, his world was hardly truly happy. I could always understand why making love to Buffy gave him that moment of true happiness. He genuinely loved Buffy, and that combined with an Orgasm probably could be a pretty blissful thing, IMO. He never found that kind of love with another woman on Angel. Even with the werewolf chick... it wasn't utter and complete love, which is why they could sleep together.

This I've wondered about as well... I always chalked it up to the fact that there weren't enough orbs in existence to do so. Another thing I've often wondered, is if Spike went through Hell to get his soul, why didn't Angel do the same? then at least he wouldnt have to be so scared to lose it.

I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean when he's Angelus and doesn't have a soul? Angelus doesn't want a soul and has no motivation to get one.

Or do you mean why wouldn't Angel do the same as Spike in order to get the 'moment of perfect happiness' part of his curse lifted?

Thats what I mean. Perhaps because he already had his soul, he couldnt fight to have it under different terms... but I dont know, I wonder if he even looked into it.

What constitutes a moment of "perfect happiness" so that Angel loses his soul has always bugged me a bit as I believe the parameters have shifted a good amount since season 2, though sex always seems to be a part of it. Back in season 2, I'm fairly certain that the actual act of sex was what caused it. I think this idea was cemented up until Angel slept with Darla as everyone considered the act of sex to be the catalyst and treated it as such. After Angel slept with Darla, I think that it merely changed from plain old sex into "sex with somebody you love." I believe that was the parameter in Season 3 of Angel as well as I do feel that at some point when Angel was holding Connor or looking at him asleep in his crib that, even for a split second, he'd feel truly happy, and no one seemed particularly worried. In Angel season 5 they changed the parameter again from "Sex with somebody you love" into "sex with your true love" type of deal so that Angel could get some groiny time again without going all evil. Even with the parameters changing throughout both series however, the act as sex has always seemed to be a crucial part to it.

I think they really overemphasized the whole "moment of perfect happiness" thing. I seem to remember Jenny Calendar's uncle saying that Angel would only lose his soul if his soul is at peace so it's not so much a matter of reaching a "moment of perfect happiness," it's more about a moment whem the guilt of his past crimes no longer burdens him and he sees the prospect of a hopeful future where he can atone for all his sins.

I think that Buffy knew by BtVS S3 that it wasn't *just* sex that would cause Angel to lose his soul (part of her feared he was sexually frustrated enough to cheat on her with the "get some, get gone" Faith) and Wesley knew it by AtS S1 (he told Cordy that even if Angel slept with that Raven actress it was highly unlikely he would achieve "perfect happiness" because of how rare that is).

Angel didn't love Nina. While he was on his way to starting a romantic relationship with her he wasn't yet in a romantic relationship with her. In The Girl In Question he tells Spike that she is not his girlfriend and that they are just hanging out. I felt like he rushed into bed with her the very next episode because Andrew lied and made him believe that Buffy had moved on and was in a happy, sex-filled romantic relationship with The Immortal (she never even met The Immortal). At the end of TGIQ it is clear that Angel and Spike were far from ready to "move on".

That's definitely not true about the Buffyverse vampires. Even though it makes no sense biologically, their hair and, with male vamps, beards grow just like it would if they were alive. Just look at all the various Angel(us) flashbacks over the years with wildly differing hair length and, in at least one case, a beard to complete it (in "Amends", IIRC).

I think what it comes down to is what kind of "Hell" he was actually in... perhaps vigerous body waxing was implimented on an hourly basis. Save for his scalp, in that instance he would probably be quite clean shaven.

The other possibility is that he had lazer hair removal surgery years before he met Buffy to ensure he would never have to shave again. Because, as Willow pointed out in Reptile Boy, it would be quite difficult to do so without a reflection.
