Something blue. Comedy legend.

I think the dialogue on BtVS is funnier. It makes me laugh out loud more. AtS comes off too self-aware with their humor in a way in which you feel like the characters know they aren't real and are laughing along with the joke which takes away the funny for me.

I'll admit cheery Spike was funny, but Gunn "marking his territory" was kinda lame, drunk Wes and Fred weren't really very amusing, Angel/Eve was just weird.

The funny part of Something Blue is Spike/Buffy and everybody's reactions to it, putting those two together even just for an episode made for some great lines and they worked so well they decided to put them together later in S6-7.

This is just IMO, but Buffy did the 'working your will' concept much better than Angel did it.

I was more like, "Go Spuffy! It's your birthday! Get down with the smoochies!" It is when I see Angel kiss someone else that I want to be blind, deaf, and am in thundering need of a lobotomy, erase the horror post-haste! I almost feel as if I am channeling my inner Buffy and am getting hurt on her behalf.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that "Something Blue" was supposed to be an experiment to see how the fans would respond to a Buffy/Spike pairing. Apparently the response was encouraging enough to develop the plot line slowly over the next couple of seasons.

An excellent episode, and how comedic episodes should be done. Episodes that focus on comedy don't always get it right - I am thinking of Season 7's "Him" which had some funny moments but was overall kind of lame, or even "Storyteller" from the same season.

I had always wondered if the Spuffy smooches were a test case for something larger ...

It just occurred to me that, in this episode, Spike was the one who got to eat the cookies. Okay, granted, they were Willow's cookies and not Buffy's, but now that I've had that thought, I don't think that I'll ever again hear that god-awful cookie dough speech without seeing Spike biting into that sweet, hot, delicious Buff...uh... cookie.

(That might make a great fan video if somebody had the skills to make such a thing)

This episode is hilarious my friend kept talking about it when I was watching season 4 so I was so excited to get to it. Its definitely one of my favorites.

"You'll really like him. Well nobody really likes him. I dont even really like him." lmao that line always cracks me up.

The first time I watched this episode I was just... wow! Spike and Buffy a married couple?! Glad that'll never happen, seeing those two as a lovey-dovey couple? No way! I like my Angsty Season 7 Spuffy better

I love Buffy's talking to Riley. That whole scene is priceless, especially the part where she goes, "Actually, I don't really like him... But I do *love* him!!" Nothing like heartbreak to bring forth comedy!

LMAO, I love the Buffy/Riley scene too.

"Spike, no - he's totally old! Well, not as old as my last boyfriend..."

Hilarious, I'll rewatch that scene just to see the confusion on Riley's face over and over. Poor boy 🙂

"...and ohmygod Riley thinks I'm engaged" Haha, yeah I think this could easily be one of the funniest episodes ever.

And it has Blink 182 in it.

Poor Willow though, she really does do heartbreak better then anyone else in the verse. I feel so sorry for her in this episode, she seems so heartbroken and isolated.

I agree, every time I watch this episode I get particularly annoyed with Buffy when she's having her picnic with Riley and Willow comes.
Fine she wants to be alone with her new beau but c'mon... your friend is in pain! It always warms me somewhat to Riley when he at least invites Willow to join them (one of the few times I really like him).

Agree, especially since it wasn't that long ago that we remember Buffy acting completely selfish about her one-night-stand-gone-wrong experience with Parker. Willow was so super nice to Buffy about it, that it sucked to see Buffy acting so insensitive. Come on?! How could you not want to cuddle Willow to death when she's crying?

I love this episode! But I just don't get the Riley-hate: he was so sweet & cute in here, it's hard not to like him. He's so nice to Willow when everyone else was being so insensitive. Like when they're walking in the cemetary, and all Buffy can do is talk about her new relationship to her friend who just lost hers. Oh puh-leeze!

And wow, is this foreshadowing or what (in reference to both Riley & Spike) when Buffy says, "But I can't help thinking — isn't that where the fire comes from? Can a nice, safe relationship be that intense? I know it's nuts, but.. part of me believes that real love and passion have to go hand in hand with pain and fighting."

This is my funniest quote- Spike: "Comfy? I'm chained in a bathtub drinkin' pig's blood from a novelty mug. Doesn't rank huge in the Zagut's Guide."

Normally I'm not a big Riley fan but I love him in this episode. Firstly for his sweetness to Willow but also cause it is hilarious (and a bit sad for him) to see his conversation with Buffy concerning Spike.

"Spike, no, he's totally old... well not as old as my last boyfriend."

Lol, poor Riley.

This episode is a comedy ledgend. I showed it to my 12 year old sister and she was laughing her head off at every single line practically. I've seen it a good three times now and I just keep watching it because I feel like it's one of the only things that can make me laugh as hard as it does.

I think it's especially all the things that Spike says that are so funny. He has quick witt and him and Buffy while he's chained to the bathtub is funny.
