Did anyone else ever wonder about Willow's something blue spell on Buffy and Spike? She wished they'd "get married" but there wasn't anything in the spell about them being unable to take their hands off each other. I always took this to mean that the two characters were sexually attracted to each other before the spell and the spell just allowed them to act on that mutual attraction. They could have gotten engaged and then spent the whole time arguing about flowers and not killing each others friends etc without all the kissing.

I think there was always something there between Buffy & Spike before that episode. They always had excellent chemistry together, but I agree with Buffy Summers, they wouldn't just choose to get married with no touching, kissing etc beforehand.....

It's one of my favourite episodes, just purely based on how great they are together in it. SMG & JM just bounce off each other so naturally.....

Well the whole thing with that spell was that it took things that Willow said to extremes.
When you say "why don't you just marry him?", you're implying that she's devoting an unreasonable amount of time and attention to him; basically that she's revolving around him. So maybe it came from that.

However I think it's more likely that they just thought that if they suddenly wanted to get married out of the blue, they should come off as love sick and immature... because it's funnier.

"I'm not the one who wanted "Wind Beneath My Wings" for the first dance." 😀

Spike: Whereas the name 'Buffy' gives it that touch of classic elegance.

One of my favorites 🙂

I love when Buffy asks Giles to give her away, and first he's all touched and then he realizes lol

I love that scene. Giles is so honoured, for a millisecond....! I just love Buffy & Giles' father-daughter relationship.

I also love the spike/giles father/son dynamic. So funny when you consider how close in age they are in real life. I think this is the first episode where Giles plays Daddy figure to Spike. Love them on the swing set together in Restless.

Love this episode. SOOO funny.

Registering as Mr and Mrs Big Pile of Dust. and "Don't I get a cookie?"

I thought it was interesting that Spike got "spelled" as well, since Willow mostly aimed it at Buffy. Another interesting twist (oh no I smell a fan fic coming on) would be if Spike wasn't on board and Buffy was trying to convince him to marry her.

I agree with others. Those two had chemistry from the get go, and when Willow cast the spell, we got to see how that chemistry would spill out if they were in that situation.

lol..... Randy Giles!

I never thought of this before reading your post but I think we just found Buffy's "normal" life......married to Randy Giles aka Spike bringing up teenager Rupert Giles together while slaying shoulder to shoulder......now that would be fun fan fic

Actually, she wished that Buffy "go marry him". I wonder why Spike was included in the spell - he immediately was in his knees proposing her... 😀

The writers were sure testing the waters - and received a positive feedback, because Spuffy ended up happening.

Yeah, that's the more accurate thing that should have happened: Buffy wanting to marry and Spike being horrified by the idea. Or not. At the crypt, when the spell was undone, and they were kissing, Spike seemed - for a split second - to be waiting Buffy's reaction to react himself - Bloody hell!

Well even under the spell they still fight, and Buffy even says to Riley "I don't even like him...but I love him". At the end Buffy says that she was betrothed to him. So the spell was meant that Buffy and Spike would uncontrollably be drawn to love each other and get married without really changing their underlying feelings for each other. And if you think that you're in love with someone then you're going to be all kissy and touchy.

I do love when Spike gets all jealous the minute Buffy says Angel's name. And of course drunk Giles is always great!
