So i own S1 - S5 of buffy (getting S6/S7 and possibly S1 of angel (which i've never watched ever lol i nkow i know i'm horrible) in a month or 2).

Anyways realized that even though i've watched the show for years and re-watched it on dvd repeatedly.

I still want certain things to work out differently than in the show.... like for example. Buffy and angel, yea i KNOW he turns evil, n then good, n then leaves. yet even knowing this i still want them to work out.

Or willow and oz same deal w/oz leaving. knowing yea ok willow hooks up w/tara. but still want oz/willow to get back together etc.

k so it's 4am and i'm not sure how much sense i'm making... anyone else get what i mean? 😛

well done!!! But I think some things happen for a reason! But Angel should have stayed in Sunnydale!!! *sighs*

I'm like that, too. Also - I've hardly watched any "Angel".

I do the same thing. I wanted there to be a different ending in Becoming part 2. Buffy not having to kill a re-ensouled Angel because Acathela didn't get activated. And of course Angel not leaving after all.
I know what you mean.

But I get that feeling no matter what I'm watching on a regular basis. There's still that feeling like "yeah, I know its going to turn out this way... but maybe, just MAYBE it'll be different this time. Or, I wish it was different..."

I think that's the thrill of it. Especially with Buffy, I'm so invested in the characters that it still hurts when they get hurt. No matter how many times I've seen it.

I know what you mean; despite what has happened, you wish it had gone differently?

not so much 'wish' cuz that would affect later shows. (and S3 taught us all about wishes lol) just... a faint hope that things will/had turned out differently.
Yeah, I totally feel the same way. 😛 It can be even more frustrating than watching it and being shocked and hurt for the first time. When I watch certain parts again, even though you know what happens and you know what's coming...god. I still cried like a baby at things like Buffy crying in Willow's lap in the Prom, her mom dying, Oz leaving, I Will Remember You, etc. Watching for the second, third, etc time, it actually seems worse. Since you know what's gonna happen, there's no surprise, and you can focus more on the details, like facial expressions, body language, some piece of dialogue you missed the first time around, and that usually gets me going more than the initial watching.

Sigh. The show is just too good. *nod*

Yep, I get what you mean, although I still feel differently about it. 🙂 Since I started watching the show at S5, I've always felt pretty indifferent towards the other characters leaving and such, mostly because I know that it will all work out for the better in the end. :biggrin3:

You're making that kind of 4am sense. But I've been there. Many times. I've been known to quickly hit the "Menu" button during Surprise right after the "fade to black" when Buffy and Angel lie back on the bed just so I don't have to see it all go to Hell. Doesn't help, though. He turns every time, no matter how much fanfic I read that says otherwise. But if he didn't turn, we'd miss out on Angelus, one of the best characters in the 'verse. Still, there's always that instant that I hope against hope that things will turn out ok this time. Same thing happens to me in Seeing Red.

I rewatch the episodes and everytime I feel the same thrill and I cry everytime I see Buffy crying...especially in Innocence and in "The Prom". I still feel extremely happy in Surprise despite the fact that he is gonna turn in the next episode. Yeah I wish that the "fade to black" scene would lead to a happy morning where they would wake up and hug each other. But I think some parts are essential to Buffy's story. Angelus' appearance showed us that she still loved Angel and couldn't just stake him. It showed us that Buffy was and will be one of the few people who can tell the difference between someone with a soul and a soulless person.

Well as the stories are still ongoing, Joss may still give you some closure on those specific stories.

Cordy/Doyle is the only one that really bothers me because I'm afraid we'll never get closure there...

Number one wish for BtVS - alas, it would mess up the whole setup at least as much as Cordy's wish did - would be Buffy not buying into Angel's "tragic hero" act and had never hooked up with him. It would make the Highschool years different beyond recognition, that's the crux of it... but from the perspective of the S8 desaster looking back, I'd be very pleased if Buffy's "if you come back here, I will kill you" in S1's "Angel" had not remained an empty threat.

In a 'verse that has Angel surviving, my number one wish for AtS would be Cordy not dying. Cangel was Old Broody's only chance at real personal growth, it seems.

for me it would be reversing the deaths of several characters...I think Jenny Calender had a lot of potential. I hate that Tara and Anya died...while I can accept Buffy being with Angel or Spike or even someone else I hate Kennedy and Willow as a couple.

I also hate how Cordelia died in Angel.

Wessly too.

Freddie for that matter as well.

Guess I'm just not a fan of characters i like dying.

I always thought it was funny that on "Roseanna" the actor that portrayed Doyle (forget his name) was touted as this tough gorgeous stud...yet on Angel his character was sort of a nebbish.

For a while i thought that Jonothan was being built up to replace Willow as the scoobies main magic user...who knew?

I like a good drama, so when I'm rewatching something like Xander leaving Anya at the altar or Angel turning soulless I still want it to happen because it affects you emotionally (even if you know it's coming!) and when a TV show can do that then it's done its job. There are only some things I'll actually skip over (like Dawn's attempt at cheerleading) because they're actually cringeworthy.

I picked up on that too. But at the end of the day, Glenn Quinn's Doyle was still far tougher and better with the gals than he was on Roseanne. He just had a tough time measuring up to Angel 😉

I always thought it was odd that the entire cast of Roseanne attended Glenn's funeral, and to my knowledge the Angel cast didn't (even though Boreanaz says that Quinn was his real life best friend)...

awww...i never knew he passed. another death i'd reverse :(
In regards to buffy.. Willow and Oz is a big thing for me. I watched New Moon Rising last night and im like...noooo Will! say yes! say yes or he'll end up back in tibet with a bunch of other werewolves and some weird wife and baby...

On angel, i sooo sit there and wish cordelia wouldn't sleep with connor. ick.

and branching off a little, firefly... iget pissed off at the last episode that there isn't more. Like, i want more so bad. I want a season 2 to miraculously pop up out of nowhere.

Same about Firefly. *still hoping*
I don't know, for me it's different.

My personal philosophy on pretty much everything is that life goes on, and you can't change the past. If we could go back and edit things, we wouldn't be nearly the people we are today, and lessons would go un-learned, etc.

So I always find it tragically beautiful when characters die and leave and such because I love the way it sort of displays the same rawness that we go through in real life with the same sorts of things.
I think I'm looking too deep into this question though, so I'll just honestly say that Riley pissed me off so much. Riley... seriously, he can go die and I wouldn't care at all, I don't care how much Buffy liked him. :tongue3:
