Did Buffy's dad ever meet Dawn? I mean, I know he did in his memories. But did they ever physically meet?
 
Hank was completely out of the picture, off in Europe or somewhere with his disgustingly young secretary before Dawn ever showed up.
 
What WA said. So technically, no, they never met. Though at the beginning of season 6 Dawn says 'Dad said he'd call' when she wants to answer the phone instead of Buffybot....so that implies they've at least spoken.

But we never saw the two of them on screen- which I don't know whether that would have been interesting or not.
 
Yeah, they defiantly spoke over the phone, but there's nothing to prove whether they met or not. I'm guessing not, but they could have met at some point.
 
They never met face-to-face, most likely.

Hank didn't even come back for Joyce's funeral, and didn't realize Buffy was dead. Though that bring me to something I always wondered:

If the gang didn't want the world (and more importantly, the demons) to know Buffy was dead, why did they give her a grave? That kind of signals vampires (who tend to hang out in cemetaries) that the slayer is dead.

They buried her in the woods not a cemetery...I suppose they thought she needed to be honoured but not too much or it would risk everything. Kinda like Buffy's actual life.

Well, I've always wondered that too. I guess they needed a real grave for her, for their closure, I guess. I imagine she wouldn't have had a real funeral though - that would certainly draw attention. I assumed Giles and the gang had her buried themselves in a private ceremony.

I assumed the grave was also in a sort of private place - possibly Giles' or Buffy's back yard - as not to attract attention to it. If her grave had been in the Sunnydale Cemetary, every vamp within a ten-mile radious would have seen it.

Cremating her would have made much more sense, really. But I have a feeling the gang had the idea from the beginning to ressurect her - and if they had cremated her, I imagine would make it more difficult.

Plus, story-wise, that shot at the end of "The Gift" of her gravestone with the writing and everything has more classic symbolist meaning then say, an urn on the fire place containing her ashes.

Ah, so it was in the woods? It's hard to imagine a vamp not accidently stumbling upon her grave and telling all his friends the "slayers dead". (After all, the word got around pretty quick after the Buffybot was damaged). Willow could have put a cloaking spell over her grave, I guess.

Agreed. I don't think that Hank ever met Dawn. He obviously wasn't losing sleep wondering how his daughters (or his ex-wife) were doing.
 
I always thought it was meant to be implied that they had, but onscreen, no. Although now that I think about it I would have loved to have 1 more scene of Deadbeat Dad Hank attempted to buy off the girls. Freakin' sleazebag.
 
Hank has never physically met Dawn, just in his mind he has. He never came around Sunnydale after S2.
 
I've always thought it was so odd how they introduced the character of Dawn. They just planted her in there without any back story. I think they thought up the Key story line because fans were so confused. All they had to do was phrase it as 'Dawn used to live with their father, but will now be living with Buffy and thier mother..' Thats it, confusion gone.. Instead she was introduced like she'd always been there. It was weird. But, I guess it ended up working out bc of the whole key-mystical-ball of energy deal.

I'm pretty sure they knew where they were going with Dawn's introduction from very early on. We've had the Faith dream sequences which refered to "Little Miss Muffet" and "Counting down from 730" as early as Season 3. Also, there was the symbolic making of Dawn's bed in Restless, never mind "Be back before Dawn!". Buffy vs Dracula was supposed to be very, very confusing. I really don't think the whole "staying with her dad" thing would have worked, I'm sure Buffy had been refered to as an only child, and it's very OOC for Joyce not to even mention her.

Actually, I think I confused myself with the 730 one. It was a cryptic reference made in a dream sequence either to the number of days left until Dawn arrived or until Buffy died in the Gift. It was re-referenced in Restless, where Buffy looks at the alarm clock which is at 7:30 and comments how late it is, then Tara says that the clock is wrong. I'm now thinking it was a reference to The Gift though. Can someone clarify?

OOC means out of character, by the way. Joyce wouldn't simply ignore the fact she had another daughter for 4 years.

One year = 365 days. Two years = 730. Which sounds more logical to you? From the end of season 3 to the start or end of season 5?


edit: But I can´t clarify. I have no proof. So I just did the best I could. 😉

Shut up you! I said clarify, not humiliate! :P That was what threw me, actually. ;)
I believe Joss said it was counting down to Buffys death. He thought out the show well ahead in time. He told the actress who played Joyce that he would be killing her during S4.

Plus introducing Dawn as Buffys normal sister who has been around from the beginning but never mentioned at all would just be horriable. Espically with Joyce trying to be all perfect mother and it wouldnt have made sense for Dawn to never come visit like Buffy visited Hank.

With Joss himself admitting to suck at maths (just look at all the confusion about what Angel's real age is, not to mention the sheer number of Buffy's birthdays 😉 ), I'd say both are equally likely. 😀
 
I don't think she has ever met him irl. The dad wasn't a big part of the story line, and it wouldn't be much of a story changing event if they did meet. It would only take precious story telling time
