Something more to Shepherd Book?

*possible spoilers if you've not seen Firelfy/Serenity*

I always thought there was something more to Shepherd Book, and as Firefly was cancelled I felt like the writers had to abandon his backstory, and in Serenity he dies before you find out anything more about him.
I always thought Shepherd Book knew a lot about the Alliance, I mean for a Shepherd, he always seemed to know what the Alliance was about. Why is this? Was Sheperd Book an old Alliance commander? What do you think went on in his misty past?
 
I agree.. I think he was like that one cat they sent to get them.. cant remember his name.

Maybe he didnt have a name.. Early was a bounty hunter.. so yeah, just call him the Operative. Anyway, I always assumed that is what he was.
 
Yeah Im on the operative boat too. Or maybe he trained as one or something or taught others. I would love to see the backstory but I will probably be waiting a while 😛

Cool, didn't know about that comic. So thanks for that bit of information.

Always wondered about the Shepherd's past. There is obviously a lot to tell there.
Have never figured out a good guess myself, so I will just wait for the comic instead of being terrible wrong 🙂

you just dont know how pissed i was when he died in Serenity.... GAH!

i was like... there is soooooooooo much to tell, we aint scratched his surface yet!
 
^^ I know, I was utterly (butterly) disappointed, such a let down, I love back stories..
 
Yay! Back story is finally coming. Thanks for that superstar (that´s what you are *starts singing the chorus to Ghetto superstar*). It´s always been clear that there´s been more than has been discoversed this far and the comics confirm it. As my fellow countryman I´ll stay away from guessing and just enjoy the comics.
 
Well, there were 4 Shepherd Book teaser facts revealed at a convention by Ron Glass with Joss' approval.
Those are googled easily enough by any who care to know them.
 
If i were to meet Joss i think of all the questions to ask...my first and foremost would be, what was Book and where was his story headed in the series? I've never been so interested and even invested in finding out a character's backstory, and it almost annoys me every time i watch firefly that i know i won't get an answer.
