Dialogue from NFA:
Scene setting: Hamilton was just killed by Angel and the building is shaking and crumbling from the wrath of the Senior Partners

Angel: You go home. This is my fight.
Connor: That's some serious mach...AGHHHH (bends over as if he was hit in the stomach but nothing touches him)
Angel: You go home NOW!
Connor: They'll destroy you.
Angel: As long as your ok They Can't...Go!

So my questions are this...
Why did Connor double over when nothing touched him? I think that he is in some way connected to the SP's and he doubled over from their wrath while the building was being destroyed.
Why did Angel make such a bold statement about as long as Connor is alive he'll be ok? I think Angel possibly found a prophecy of sorts about him and Connor or he found out "what" Connor really is. Because the "what am I" question was never really answered was it.

I also think this may be Whedon's setup if he decides to do a tv movie or a series on Connor.
Thoughts?

I didn't want to search through the tape, but here's the way it's described in the transcript -

CONNOR
What do we do?

ANGEL
You go home.

CONNOR
Huh?

ANGEL
This is my fight.

CONNOR
That's some serious macho"”
(some of the building debris falls on him)
Aah!

The concrete support beam falls from the ceiling onto the lobby floor.

ANGEL
Go home...now.

CONNOR
They'll destroy you.

ANGEL
As long as you're OK, they can't.
(the building rumbles as yet another concrete ceiling joist falls, crushing the balcony)
Go.

Connor looks at Angel before running down the hallway to leave. Angel looks around as the building crumbles before his eyes.

As far as Angel saying he can't be hurt if Connors all right, I always thought it just meant Connor is the most important thing to him.

No, ahe meant as long as his son was alive, Angel would be happy.

Damn, beaten to it

Sorry Nerd4Hire but I think you better check the tape. I just reviewed again for about the 6th time and nothing touches Connor when he doubles over. Yes beams fall but of the two neither comes near them and they both fall after Connor doubles over.
That is what caught my attention and made me really pay attention to the whole scene and what was said.
At first I thought Angel meant he would be happy Connor lives but hey no hug, no goodbye, no "I love you" from Angel. It looks like something Wheadon would do for future use.

He was trying to get Connor out of the building and was kind of busy. PLus they arent exactly the huggy type.

I didn't pay close enough detail to see the beam/ non beam thing, but I kind of figured he had merely lost his balance/cringing from the building shaking, and for the arrgish sound, maybe one of his former injuries from being thrown hurt by the shake? Or he just was surprised by the shake?

Connor: They'll destroy you.
Angel: As long as your ok They Can't...Go!

I was surprised no one else who posted saw it as I did. For me, I got that Angel was saying that as long as Connor is alive, a part of him still lives on, as Connor is his flesh-and-blood son. So, since a piece of him, physically (as in genes, blood and all that fun stuff) and in memories lives on in Connor, as long as he's around the senior partners can never fully "destroy" Angel.

That's good. I like that one.

Yeah I thought that too at first but after watching it again it is sorta a weird thing to say as your final words to your son wouldn't you think.
Also why would he double over just as the building shook. Angel had the bejeebers kick out of him by Hamilton and he never cringed.
I'm just thinking this is a odd quick scene that Whedon and crew always wrote into stories that at first were missed until it was explained later. Know what I mean?

You mean like Tara hiding the demon-finding powder under the rug? I get your point, but for me anyway, not sold yet.

Guess I'll have to dust that tape off and give it a view.

thanks for checking the tape. look forward to your findings
Yeah, OK. I checked it out. I guess you could look at it one of 2 ways.

Connor is favouring his leg. He moves forward as he speaks, then cuts out mid-sentence in pain. He hunches down in a way which could be explained by the injury he appears to have to his leg. You could say that's where the pain is.

You could also say there isn't a clear explanation for the pain, so it's a possible set-up to have significance later on.

You also might suggest it's a possible screw-up by the special effects, or props guys and something was supposed to fall on him as W&H fell around their ears, but they screwed up.

The statement by Angel could also possibly be part of a set-up for a later explanation as to something which will allow Angel to live on, but it's also awful easy to say it's more an expression of how Angel feels towards his son.

No explanation really makes all others impossible.

Also the look was an i love you look i like to think...cause they did stare pretty hard at each other before leaving leaving cos they are not the huggy type.Nerd4hire is right i think.

Ok neither were the huggy, love you, I will live thru you if you are alive type but doesn't the scene at least "feel" like something a little odd? That's the feeling I got when I watched it and that Whedon twist he is so good at tingled my senses for a second which made me look at the scene with a bit of skepticism.

I think the reason Connor cringes is, that it is he is either still hurt from when Hamilton tossed him into the wall (or elevator), or something from the fight was cut for time reasons and they forgot about it. Either way I think he is just hurt from Hamilton. As far as what Angel said I think he just meant that they can't destroy him because Connor is O.K. and that is what matters most to him. Hell, it's the main reason he took the job in the first place.

I agree with Mulder. I think the reason Connor cringed or said "Uuugghhh" is because of a previous injury that he got from fighting Hamilton. And as for what Angel said, Ithink he just meant that he'll be okay as long as Connor's okay. I mean that's all he ever cared about at the moment. Cordy was dead, Buffy moved on, Fred died, he probably thought all his freinds were dead, and Connor was his son. As long as you're okay, I'm okay sounds a lot like something a parent would say.

Did anyone else not think Connor was kind of favouring his leg, and was taking a step just as the pain hit? Wasn't it kind of like he was saying, "Ow...My leg hurts."

OK just watched the scene again. He hit the elevator door head-first. He got up asking Angel if Hamilton was dead. He walked towards Angel slowly and gingerly looking like he was favouring his legs but when the SP's gave the building a hard shake he was standing still and he doubled over forward hands going to his stomach like he was hit in the gut. Nothing was falling near him at the time or no one was near him. The only thing that made him double over was the building shaking.

OK, then maybe he doubled over because the building was shaking then. Or possibly since he hit his head he may have been dizzy. I don't think he had any connection to the senior partners though.

The kid was just in a fight...I think he just hurt in general...so I agree with the shaking probably making a wound he already had hurt worse...wheathe rit be his leg, side, stomach, head, fingers...or maybe not so much his fingers...but he was in pain in general I would say

maybe there is some connection to the sp due to the deal they cut with angel when he killed connor, i don't know really all this thinking is kind of making my head explode, but it would make what i found a depressing ending seem a little brighter.
