My friend showed me this earlier:

Typing particular letter combinations into Microsoft Word using Wingdings and Webdings fonts produces some eerie results.

1. open MS word
2. type "NYC" in uppercase letters
3. change the font size to 72
4. change the font to webdings
5. change the font to wingdings

Apparently "q33ny" - supposed to be the flight number of one of the crashed planes - gives an aeroplane, two buildings, a skull and crossbones and the star of david. Again, no comment, although whether this is in fact the number of one of the planes seems unlikely.

I've heard a few people suggesting that this is a sign that Microsoft were involved in the terrorist attack.

It's not really that strange, it's just a coincidence that the characters lined up like that, the source page even says so. Also, the source page says that everything in that rumor is untrue.
 
True. But it was what happened with the font change-thingy that was strange.
 
It wasn't really that strange. In those fonts, each letter, number, etc. is assigned a symbol. Those letter just happened to have those symbols. And the q33ny thing was a blatant lie, whoever started that rumor just picked those letters and numbers because of the symbols they have. And those "two buildings" were pieces of paper anyways. This is just an example of someone trying to take advantage of a tragedy to get attention and upset people.
 
I'm thinking that this is just some horrible person (with far too much time to spare) trying to make a joke out of something that is obviously not funny. Much in agreement with princess_zombie here.
 
This is an old piece of urban legend that has been on the Snopes site since 2001. BTW Snopes aka the Urban Legend Reference Pages has been around for a while and is very reliable for finding out the truth behind such stuff. I've always felt that like you guys said above, some people have too much time on their hands and fill it by spreading round such silliness. Of course, now we have the internet, these things get round that much more quickly and tend to get accepted as the truth without often being checked properly. That is where Snopes score really well, as they seem to check out these items very thoroughly. It's one of my fave sites, in case you hadn't guessed 🙂
 
This particular one has been going around for a bit, I remember getting it in an email not that long after September 11th.
 
Same here. It's just a coincidence... but a freak coincidence! That much I'll admit.
 
true, prolly just someone with waaay too much time on their hands. Though...it was kinda weird. ::mmm::
