Somnambulist continuity error?

I was watching this episode and I had a question. Did anyone else find it a little odd that Angelus just all of a sudden had this relationship with a man never mentioned before? Did he hang out with Spike, Dru, Darla and Angel on their rampage through Europe? I'm a little fuzzy on this-- did they clarify anything in this episode?

There were times when Angelus, Darla, Dru and Spike weren't always together. In the episode Trial in Angel season 2 Darla says to Angelus when she escapes the mob: "I hope you survive this, Angelus. If you do, maybe we meet again in Vienna.'' Its not had to believe that when Angelus was travelling by himself he sired another vampire.
