I just watched this episode and it got me wondery about why on earth Lindsey would tell Spike his name was Doyle? I get that they are trying to demoralise Angel by setting Spike up as the big Hero but it still dosen't explain why he would use the name Doyle and not some other name - i mean, didn't lindsey realise that when the truth inevitably came out about who was giving him his missions that Angel would put two and two together. And were all Lindsey's 'visions' manufactured or what?

Lindsay's visions were faked.he faked it, like you do an orgasim.

Spike isn't all that bright, so having conveniently forgotten he met Doyle in In The Dark, it is no surprise he went for it.
As for Lindsay using Doyle's name, maybe he thought Angel would think he came back and chose Spike (Unlikely), or most likely it was just to fool Spike,
And wait for Angel to get suspicious and set him up via his reaction for what he had planned for him.Who knows....

Spike isn't all that bright, so having conveniently forgotten he met Doyle in In The Dark, it is no surprise he went for it.

At first I thought the same thing but after watching the episode again, I don't remember anyone saying Doyle's name in Spike's presence so there might be a chance that Spike didn't know his name at all. To him he was just another one of the good guys.

But then again, nobody mentioned Cordelia's name to him in BtVS but when he gets to Angel, he seems to know her pretty well.

Yeah, just watched In The Dark today and Doyle was never 'formaly' introduced. i always assumed that Spike must have known of Cordelia because of his interest in killing Buffy, so one assumes that in his recon he must have become familiar with her so that he at least knew her by sight.

I think, since lindsey hated angel so much, he knew about Doyle and his story, so he knowingly walked into telling spike his name was doyle, so spike would eventually go back to angel and say his name, just to get him more pissed off
