We have two vampires who, through two different sets of circumstances, have souls. Now, maybe this is just splitting hairs, but, according to Buffyverse canon, Angel was cursed with "a soul." Spike, by trials, torture, and triumph, had "his soul" returned to him. Is there a difference beyond the mere wording used?

I think so Gyspies cursed Angel , so maybe it was worse for Angel rather than Spike. Spike wanted his soul and fought for it i guess it came with a price atonement . Spike becomes a better man . Angels got a destiny and i think Spike is there to help x

There may be. . . . If these are the words that Angel and Spike, respectively, used to talk about their souls, it's possible that Angel didn't feel an ownership of his soul and Spike did. I don't think that Angel was given just a random soul; I'm fairly certain it is HIS soul, but maybe he doesn't feel that way because it was forced on him, not actively sought.

Well, look at it this way; Angel for some reason feels the need to revisit sins upon himself even though according to Buiffylore he wasn't in the driver's seat.

Spike does not have this attitude. His attitude is; I was vampire. What did you expect?

But, as Buffylore points out who the person was before becoming a vamp influences who they are after.

Which brings us back to your question; is a soul a curse for a vampire or not. The answer is that it depends on the individual. Is there some mystical force that makes one suffer and another not? No, the only difference is personal melodrama.

Edit:

He always was a bit of a Drama Queen.
