In season five of Angel, Spike and Angel have an argument over who would win spacemen or cavemen in a fight now i wana hear what you guys think

Awesome. So glad you made this. That part made me laugh my ass off.
Spacemen. They are so much cooler and superior to the cavemen. That and while brutality may seem to win out to some people, the spacemen are smart so they'll figure something out, like poison gas or something.
 
The spacemen don't have weapons though. I have to give it to the cavemen. Intelligence can only help so much when you're armed with nothing.
 
Got to give it to the Cavemen, brains vs brute strength in a fist fight....think it's going to be the strength...so i agree with Spike 😀

I can see now how Spike and Angel could have had this argument....from the last three replies have varied answers lol!

Cavemen!! totally lol, look at what they did to Parker in Beer Bad...not saying it was a bad thing though, i was totally cheering them on :yay: :lol2:

Because Parker was an astronaut, or even had the brains to become an astronaut.

Also, astronauts have to be pretty fit, so they'll have BOTH brains and brawn.

Right IF you're talking about actual Astronauts vs Cavemen, then fair game, but you do realise that the context of this was early homosapien vs current homosapien, possibly even neaderthal man vs current homosapien.

(Actually the context is Old Demon vs New Man in Fred and Illyria - and in that case the show answered the question for us)

If that is the case then Buffy vs Parker in Beer Bad is a legitimate example.

I wish people would stop getting this topic a) wrong b) mixed up.

If you are genuinely doing astronaut vs caveman it should be what MAKES them each (that includes technology) IF you are doing astronaut as an example of man, then its without the space faring equipment, thus just a man, thus allows Parker into equation.

This topic is one of the most contentious ones in the verse becase a) people never actually define which aspect of it they wish to discuss, so you get smartarses that dismiss things because it goes against their answer ('Oh, well the astronaut doesn't have weapons, so you can't use that' has been used dozens of times) b) people mix up what it is actually about.
 
I'd vote for the cavemen... But it's mostly because I think it's silly to fight, when you look like a gian marshmellow. Nude fighting is much easier..Don't ask me how I know that

They were arguing and they kept going up close like they were about to kiss. That woulda been weird... =X

Anyway, I can't decide which. I'd be incline to say Cavemen because I think that's what Spike chose, but then Spacemen are gonna be smarter and have knowlege of technology and science...
 
Astronauts. I think the cavemen would be much slower and dimwitted. Whether they had weapons or not, I believe the spacemen could outsmart them. Or distract them with some shiny stuff.
 
I'm changing my vote. I just noticed the title of the thread is Spacemen (plural) versus caveman (singular). Doesn't seem fair, but yes, I do believe multiple spacemen can probably defeat a single cave man.

As I said in one of the many previous discussions about this, if you want to take this into the extreme, and actually have this fight, you would have to take a spacedude from the future, since astronauts from the now don't have the remotest possibility to go back in time to find a caveman to fight (not that I think they will have in the future, but there seem to be people who do). Anyway, that would complicate the matter even more since we don't know how astronauts form the future will look like. (My brain works in very strange ways)

In the mean time, back on planet Earth, I still believe prehistoric man would win, even if the guy he was fighting actually was an astronaut, and not just Parker. Modern man may be taller and smarter, but there you shouldn't underestimate the intelligence of a caveman. They worked together to catch and kill animals way bigger than themselves, they managed to survive for more than a million years, and become, even before they became Egyptians or Babylon-people, the relative top of the foodchain wherever they moved to.I think the caveman might surprise you, and that the modern, astronauty guy has no chance. He thinks way to complicated. Like me 😉
 
cavemen win. I see both sides of the argument but it's primal and animal instinct and that would take power over the brain. Especially since they don't have any weapons the astronauts only have themselves to fall back on and fighting/hunting just isn't in their range of (perfectly respectable) skills.
 
The question was pretty well answered on the original "Star Trek" series. Kirk was dropped, alone and unarmed, on a planet where he had to fight a Gorn (no, not a cave man, but a brutish, savage reptilian being.) When Kirk tried to fight the Gorn directly, its superior strength made all of his hand to hand combat training useless. It wasn't until he used his superior intellect to create an explosive device that he was able to win. The parallels aren't exactly the same, because the Gorn was from a space fairing race and, supposedly, as scientifically advanced as humans, but instead of relying on intellect, it chose to fight on a more primitive level, going so far as to arm itself with a stone knife.

As with Kirk and the Gorn, in a physical confrontation, the brute, or caveman, would win. What made Kirk, the astronaut, the ultimate winner, was that he was able to break away and postpone a final conflict until he could use his superior intellect to create affective weapons that would allow him to overcome the caveman's superior strength.

So my money's on the spaceman, just as long as he's at least as smart as Captain Kirk.
