Spade and Stone in Assembly Required

I watched Some Assembly Required earlier and noticed a few things that stuck out in it.

At the start Buffy is waiting for Stephen to get up as he is obviously a fresh vamp kill. She gets into her fight and obviously beats him, she uses the spade. Why did the spade get dusted? Normally Buffy or any slayer stll have their weapons in tact i.e Kendra's Mr Pointy had made may slayings (later of course).

How quick are the tombstone makers? The guys been dead and buried a day or two, hence the reason Buffy knew who to get. I'm no expert but I'm sure that they are little slower than that?

The weapon, whether actual stake or just something improvised, dusts with the vampire unless it's withdrawn very quickly. It's never been actually explained why, but it happens that way quite consistently on the show.

Really? Isn't that incredibly morbid?

Is that a common thing? That's not generally how it works over here. I know with my grandparents after they were buried, we had to wait months, close to a year, for a headstone to be put up.

Where I live, it's quite common for someone to purchase the grave marker with as much information as is known engraved in advance, and even pick out their own coffin and have everything paid for (hopefully) years before it's needed. If you think about it, it's actually better that way, because it saves the surviving family the task of making arrangements the way that they hoped Uncle Henry would have wanted. All of the arrangements, all of the decisions, are taken care of in advance, and there's no worries about whethtr or not it was done according to the deceased's final wishes.

The only thing that I know people do do is that they buy their plot ready. And I know that my mother when my father died she bought what's called a double plot, not side by side! When they bury the first person they dig the grave deeper, so at a later date another member of the family can be buried on top when the time comes. Sadly, in my fathers case, it was my sister who joined him nearly 10 years ago and my mother was buried here in the islands.
