Even though I'm a huge fan of Tara/Willow, I so wish Spander (Spike/Xander) would have happened like originally planned.

Anybody else?

Joss had Spike come back in season 4 so he could become Xander's boyfriend or Joss had plans for that but because Oz left and Tara was introduced and Joss made Tara & Willow lesbians.
 
I have no idea if this is true or not. I do know that Joss wanted to make either Xander or Willow gay to have a gay character on the show and ultimately picked Willow. Xander always hated vampires anyway, Spike included, so that would have been a odd pairing!

This thread reminds me of this memorable moment though:


Anya: Hands off the merchandise, Spike. You don't get to go there again.
Spike: Please, I've already forgotten about our little time together.
Nancy: I thought you were Xander's ex-girlfriend.
Anya: I am.
Nancy: But you and Spike...
Anya: Had a thing.
Spike: Didn't last.
Nancy: But weren't you Buffy...
Spike: Briefly.
Buffy: Never serious.
Nancy: Is there anyone here that hasn't slept together?
[Spike and Xander look at each other] 😛

yeah, that's a great moment!
As much as I love the idea of Spander, I wouldn't want it to happen as canon. I ship Spuffy and Xanya too much for Spike and Xander to be with each other.

Xander and Spike are probably my favorite pair to read about in fanfic, but I'm not sure how it would work in canon... and also I love spuffy too much.
 
It probably would be best left in people's imaginations. I knew the line in "Beneath You" probably set things off tremendously.

I think Joss was toying with the idea in season 4. Xander and Spike's scene in "Hush" is priceless.

Spike: I don’t see why I have to be tied up.
Xander: It's just while I'm sleeping.
Spike: Like I'd bite you anyway.
Xander: Oh you would.
Spike: Not bloody likely.
Xander: I happen to be very biteable pal. I'm moist and delicious.
Spike: Alright, yeah fine you're a nummy treat.
Xander: And don't you forget it.
Spike adopts a high pitched almost falsetto voice - like Anya.
Spike: Xander don't you care about me.
Xander: Shut up!
Spike: We never talk.
Xander holds up a warning finger.
Xander: Shut up!
Spike: Xaaannnder.
Xander: Shut up!

Of course, if it'd happened, there wouldn't be neither Spuffy, nor Willow/Tara...

I've heard this mentioned several times, but I've just never seen any sort of connection between Spike and Xander beyond a mutual respect, never friendship, of each other as demon fighters. Of all of the Scoobies, Xander just doesn't seems to be the one who dislikes and refuses to trust Spike the most.

Xander an Riley, now, THAT I could see.

I like the idea of Spike and Xander, I think it would of really pushed at Xander's beliefs and made him think about how he had behaved when Buffy was with Angel. I'm not sure how it would have worked though, with both of them having previously been with women, and Spike not having a soul.

I could of seen Xander being with Riley as well.
 
I agree with [MENTION=6758]white avenger[/MENTION], I could never ever see Spander happening. But honestly, I could see Xiley (Rander?) happening. The scene in the dorm room where they're wrestling and stuff? I could see it.

No no no no no.... I'm a HUGE Tillow fan, but no. Spike and Xander? Seriously? People can actually see that happening? What?

I don't think Spannder was originally "planned." Where did you hear that? I do know that Xander was originally going to be "the gay one" (not Willow) but I don't think it was ever intended for him to hook up with Spikw.

Honestly, I was never too attracted to Spander, altough I see why people would be. The two characters have a lot in common, and play off one and other well.
 
I can't see that ever have happening. For one that's just an odd pairing. For two, Xander is just too into women, I mean remember how long he pined for Buffy?

It makes more sense for Willow to have been gay as she was pretty naive in terms of relationships since she only dated Oz....

And Spike gay? Now that I can't see at all....LOL.
 
i can definitely see spike gay. and xander, for that matter. and i love spander as a pair in non-canon fanfiction (there are some hot ones, whew). but i love spuffy too much for that to have actually happened. and if spike's going to be with any male and be canon, it'd be angel. especially since joss hinted at that actually happening in the past.

Xander/Spike for the win!!!!! Hot, snarky, sparks with interesting storylines. If you're a fan of Buffy/Spike then Xander/Spike is no different. They start off hating each other, then learning to trust each other, until they fall in love. It's not impossible when you develop the story gradually, like Spuffy.

As for Xander/Riley? No. God, no. As boring as Xander/Dawn.
