The spoilers are starting to appear fast and furious, so I figured they need their own thread. Love this...

The destruction of Buffy's hometown, plus covert and powerful slayer "cells" around the world, add up to a new label for the Scoobies: Terrorist threat. Speaking of Sunnydale, the crater formerly known as, has opened to reveal the witch Amy, and boy is she pissed. Now: Giles, smoochies, a knife to the heart, and a big sleep. Season Eight continues.

Well I guess that answers the question of whether anyone was still living in Sunnydale when it went underground. We know now that Amy was still around. Makes you wonder exactly why she hadn't left with everyone else. And who else might have been buried in the debris.

Also, a knife to the heart and a big sleep? Are we getting a major death so soon in the series? Hmmmm?
 
So, if they're perceived as "terrorists", I wonder if this is gonna be like X-Men, or The Hulk - some angry rogue general is trying to quell the Scoobie threat to humanity, heh.
 
I'm glad they're going into the Amy thing, because I wasn't completely satisfied with that one. I didn't completely understand how the jealousy dynamic worked there.

Amy's jealous of Willow's power, but apparently Amy can do a little back-handed spell, and throw Willow for a loop. If she really thinks Willow is the uber-witch, would she want to mess with her? What's really going on in Amy's head, and how tough a witch is she really? Enquiring minds want to know.

agreed. they didn't work that out in 7 well enough. Joss is gonna iron out all the kinks.
Wow, Amy. gotta say, never saw that coming.

i have a question, though. i read an interview in Buffy Mag with Dark Horse's Scott Allie, and he mentioned that something will be going on with Dawn. i haven't got the article on hand, but has anyone heard any more about this?
 
Well, in the original press release they were saying something about Dawn having "growing pains". Is that what you're referring to?

So what's going on in the extended Buffyverse? Well, you may recall the show ended with the creation of an army of Slayers. Now they're organized, and the tide has turned in favor of the good guys. Ah, but you know how much Whedon hates winners: Soon an "old enemy" surfaces (Dark Horse is cagey on Big Bad's identity), and Dawn starts "experiencing serious growing pains."

he didn't use the words growing pains, but it was something along those lines.
 
Amy? Gotta say, i'd have been more impressed if it had been her mother.
Maybe both working together, but Amy in season 7, that was kinda pathetic.

Scoobies perceived as 'Terrorist Threat'...that sounds, quite frankly, absurd.
Not because they couldn't do damage, but because this smacks of Whedon and co trying to do some big political thing.

I will admit i'm interested in more spoilers, but so far, nothing i've read seems interesting.

I'm going to camp outside the comic store in March like a Fanilow. :)
The few pages I've seen seem to have a little too much of a science fiction flavor to me. Certainly, I believe that there is new technology available to the Slayers that would make their job easier, but they seem to have gone way too far with it. This is supposed to be right after Sunnydale, and we have the Slayers using equipment that it would take months, if not years to master, even if it were available to them. I want "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," not "Buffy Summers, Agent of S.L.A.Y.E.R.S." Hopefully, I'm wrong, and everything will work out okay...

I agree that does sound potentially quite lame. Buffy doesn't need political satire. Usually Joss tends to be so oblique and vague with that kind of thing, seems like. We'll see..

Or, well, maybe you won't, heh.

The only way I will read this comic is if yourself, N4H, Lyri, Arcane and another member I respect give it REALLY great reviews.
As I won't be around for its 'launch' I will be back when the dust as settled and a few issues have been released.

Note - I still think it would sound more interesting with Amy's mother and not Amy.

What is it about Amy's mom you find so intriguing? You're just speaking in relative terms, yes? Cos Amy was so pathetic at the end? I'm interested to see how Joss will tweak all the things that lots of fans perceive as weaknesses at the tail end of Buffy, Angel..

Whether or not one thinks it's just a pointless medium, I think one danger comics have is that there's the freedom to get so macro, so epic in scope that intimate stories and character can go away. Brian K. Vaughan is a master at balancing those things, IMO. Joss has done quite well too, with what I've read - Fray, Astonishing...
 
ok, finally found the atricle i was talking about yesterday. this is the part of the interview i was referring to:

She's (Buffy, I'm guessing) in Europe and she's got this task force and her friends are part of the operation, and a lot of stuff is going on with Dawn, which is pretty wild.

It also refers to some of the other characters in ways that make it so you can't wait until Issue Two. It leaves you asking what is going on with Giles and Willow, who you don't see right off the bat.

LOL that would account for Buffy's power trips....hee hee just kidding that made me laugh i can see it now......she runs a company of the same name...helping people, crushing demons....

Provided they don't write something like let's be nasty to Angel agian i'm sure it will work, i like the Amy bit, it will work i'm sure.
 
Yeah, he's referencing Nick Fury, which kinda makes my eyes glaze over. Really hope they start to veer away from the high-techery, 24ish stuff..
