I realise that my geek/nerd cred is about to go down a notch or two but curiosity gets the better of me...

What actually are the 'members' listed as "Inktomi Spider" and "Google Spider" which often appear when I check the Who's Online quick link? Are they some kind of search engine tool? I realise that I may seem ever-so-slightly geeky sometimes 😉 but the inner workings of search engines are a complete mystery to me.

Sorry sweetie. I'm only part computer geek - mainly I'm a sci-fi nerd 🙂 Ask me something that isn't about search engines and I may know the answer. I also have the support of a supergeek, computer professional stepson - which helps sometimes to make me look geekier than I really am...

Yeah they are search engine spoilers, they go over all the stuff so when someone puts in a search if its relevant they could end up here.
