Spike and Archaeus's essence

I don't believe that's where the writters are going, ever, but bear with me.

We learned from the comics that when a person is turned, a specific demon's essence reanimates his/her body; in the case of The Master, Darla, Angel, Drusilla and Spike this demon is Archaeus.

Spike retained some of his humanity – we can see this right after his turning: he still cares about his mother, wants to cure her, and be with her for eternity; he gets very shocked about what she does and says to him. Later, he falls in love and eventually gets a soul for himself.

I don't think that a chipped Angelus would change that much - on the contrary, he would be soooo pissed off... same with Darla. David Fury said Spike was an anomaly in the Buffyverse:

There's been a lot of controversy with my opinions about Spike and about his, the nature of Spike and a lot of people are concerned why is Spike, why is Spike letting her talk to him in that way? Why is he so hurt? He's a vampire. Why would he? And I think that was the point of this episode. It was to say Spike is an anomaly in the vampire world. He has some facet of his soul even if it was removed when he became a vampire. He has more humanity as a vampire than most vampires do. We haven't explained why that is but perhaps something about the character of him as a man, and he's retained it as a vampire. (Lies My Parents Told Me commentary)

Being the last to be sired, would the essence of Archaeus in Spike be, I don't know, smaller or something like that? Letting William's character to play a bigger role?

And Archaeus plans to built an army would be very stupid.
 
Yeah, if they really are going full World of Darkness - that would make Spike something of a thin-blooded. I don't like it, makes Spike, I don't know, kinda less of a monster?

But they established all of that in season 2. He and Dru both had humanity in them and to them. That's why he is different; he still maintained alot/enough of his humanity.
 
Yeah, but that's his personality, his passion, love for Dru and so on - not some weak essence, distilled blood, mystical ersatz or whatever.

After writing it, I realized that William's mother would be the last on the line, not him.

When a demon enters a body, he enters a body entirely; but now we are talking about the essence of a demon, and then I think it can be measured. Maybe when Archaeus's essence entered William's body, some bug happened that made him less demony...

I don't feel the need of Spike's humanity to be explained, I don't think that every thing has to be explained, but with this essence thing that they have came up with, maybe they will use in the future for some other thing than a link between the Master family. Or dropped it entirely. Is Archaeus the only demon who is capable of share his essence?

And that was said by a demon that destroyed humanity. But like the "Angel is my sire", Dru's humanity was kind of forgotten, although we didn't have the opportunity to see her chipped.
 
I've always assumed that Dru had specific needs for her dark prince - and really did not turn him exactly as she was supposed to. She was insane (lateral thinker willing to take risks) and she was clever, a seer, she knew what she was doing. She just wasn't using the same technique that Darla used. Angelus and Darla were not in love - that was a theme mentioned in a lot of their flashbacks. Hell, Darla knocked Angelus out in a burning building and made off with the only horse. Darla was older, only one step away from the Master - and she wanted a killer, a sublime machine of evil.

Dru wanted someone to treasure her, take care of her, give her everything, suffer for her, fight for her - she was tired of being ignored. William (and Spike) was as obsessive as they came. He fit the bill perfectly - the very fact he tried to turn his mother shows both his obsessive nature and his nurturing streak. So I don't think the demon is weaker - I think it's just obedient to the needs of Spike's sire.

Maybe it's like Twilight where a vampire retains his/her most prominent personality or character trait, and it's magnified.
