It always seemed to me that Dawn's friendship and trust was something that Spike always treasured, just as he did his friendship with Joyce. When Dawn broke off their friendship at the beginning of Season 7, do you think that it was permanently, or do you think that they will eventually reconcile?

I really hope that they do, because a friend is far too precious and rare a commodity to lose.

I like to believe they did. Spike and Dawn's relationship was always a favorite of mine. I just think Dawn was being protective of her sister and didn't want to see her hurt but I like to think after it sunk in that Spike changed and how much he means to Buffy, Dawn let him back in. I certainly hope so. Their friendship was special and something I always adored.

She forgave him just like she forgave Faith (who may have actually taken her hostage). In some ways you get the idea that Spike hung around with Joyce not just because he was a mummy's boy but because she was the closest thing he could get to Buffy. With Dawn it's partly because she's the closest thing he has to Buffy but also because she's the outsider amongst the scoobs as he is

We don't actually see them talk after her threatening, right? However, I do assume they got over that. My mind also says that although she forgave him, she did not forget. You don't get to see them close, or alone together at all afterwards. I'm not sure if she could totally forgive him. Like, when two people have a spat, it feels weird for a while, even after the fight is over. I do think though that she later on starts trusting him again, because there were no more threats even though he and Buffy are back being close (friends?) again.

I was also thinking about the scene from "Him", where Buffy and Dawn sit outside at the school's football field, and they talk about Spike. Dawn says that she doesn't understand how could Spike love her (Buffy) to death but then to it (rape) to her. She did not forget about that, but she's trying to understand, understand Buffy motly. To her it's clear that Buffy forgave Spike. So maybe she did as well. Because she was trying to protect Buffy, and Buffy assures her that she's fine with Spike now ("for the credit, Spike knew how wrong it was. That's why her ran away"), so Dawn could forgive him as well.

But the fact that they didn't speak to each other again, I think, like I said, she forgave him, but did not forget. It's a shame. But I don't think they could be back to what they were before. Not the same. I mean, she could talk to him, look at him in the eye, but still... it's not gonna be so easy to restore their past relationship. That's what I think.

I'm not sure they even cared anymore. 🙁 Spike was more focused on dealing with his soul and winning back Buffy's trust. And Dawn was more busy with other stuff and spending more time with Xander.

It really sucks because I liked their friendship so much.

I loved their friendship, their scenes were very cute and funny but I stood by Dawn's side when she decided to cut him off after what he did to Buffy..kit was the right thing to do, she loved Buffy and of course didn't like to see her hurt and knowing what he almost did to her certainly didn't help...but deep down, I know she forgave him and tried to understand why he tried to do it..(like in "Him" as someone above there said).

On reflection i am disappointed we never saw a sort of reconcile scene in season 7, would have been a nice touch. Their friendship was always something i warmed too, especially in the early stages of season 6.

I definitely think they will reconcile, at least I hope so. I always adored their friendship and I think both characters treasured it. When they get the chance they'll patch things up (and then Spike will give her a hard time about Xander ;p)

Love your sig - nice to see Firefly around here
Well, we haven't had any Dawn-Spike interaction in season 8 yet, and I don't know if we will due to time constraints (only 3 issues left, and a lot to wrap up). Maybe season 9? It'd be nice.

I think they got over it. I mean after it was obvious to Dawn he wouldn't hurt Buffy, I think she let him back in... although I do think the threat still stood. He hurt Buffy and he'd wake up on fire.

I always liked Spike&Dawn, he helped her, although he always tried to pretend to be the bad bad boy like in season 5 and also 6. It didn't seem to me, that there relationship changed a lot, because Spike tried to rape Buffy, it was just weird in season 7, cuz there it didn't seem to be such a deep relationship between the both anymore.....

For a minute, it seemed like he took care of Dawn only because of Buffy, because he knew what she meant to her. However, in the next minute, it becomes kind of obvious that he did care about Dawn, regardless how he felt for Buffy and the fact that he was trying to impress her (I'm talking about season 5, of course). He really did like her and wanted her safe, and I believe it hasn't changed even after everything that happened.

I loved their friendship. It was really genuine and sweet, and I really liked the way they interacted with each other.

I think it was a shame that the thread of their friendship was dropped when Buffy came back in S6, and that they never had a chance to make up in S7.

There's a definite older-brother, younger-sister vibe between them and I'd definitely have loved to have seen more in-show interaction. As it is, I'll make do with fanfic. 🙂

That's why Spike/Dawn shippers creep me out. Same for Xander/Dawn, who are also like older brother-younger sister. But that's a topic for another thread.

Yeah, I love Spike-Dawn as a friendship but as a romantic ship it creeps me out. *shudder*

Same for me with Buffy/Xander. To me, they're just too much like close siblings. That's why I could never imagine them in any other kind of relationship.
I really loved the two as friends. I do think that Spike only really looked out for Dawn because of Buffy, but you can tell that changes through time and ends up really wanting to protect Dawn. It's cute 🙂
