Spike and Pike?

Ok so I know the series is based on the movie..well following the movie but I just find it weird. I have always wondered if Spike was based a bit on Pike. The name, and maybe a bit of bad boy too, even tho they both were like puppy dogs...Spike at times. But then again, how could it be if Pike was in the past as it was a MOVING FORWARD kinda thing. I know it is confusing, but that has been on my mind for about 2 months. Thought I would share. : grinyes
 
I always wondered the same thing.They are both similar in the way the act,dress,and they even look alike.They even have almost the same name.Maybe that wasn't an accident.Maybe Joss wanted to have someone on the show that was sort of a rebel like Pike so he made Spike.
 
Spike was only supposed to be in there for like 8 episodes; so, I hardly think he intended to make him as that kind of character. Maybe we wanted to use Pike from the movie as a baddie for season 2, but as he progressed the character changed, that he decided to change the name a bit too ?!!
 
I just wish they touched more upon where Buffy came from and possibly her past romance with Pike. She never talked about how her first watcher died either once she got to Sunnydale...
 
I know.They never said anything about her past in LA escept that she burned down the gym.Did they even say that her watcher died?I just assumed he did since that's what we saw in the movie.
 
they also didnt mentioned how they got buffy to move to sunnydale.. like how did her parents know where to go and and why and did they know buffy was meant to be at sunnydale???? what with that???
 
I don't think they did. I think it was supposed to be sort of a fate kind of thing. Joyce picked Sunnydale because it was a small town where nobody knew them...or did she? Was she being manipulated by the 'Powers that Be' to get the Slayer to the Hellmouth? It's an interesting question...

As far as the 'Pike/Spike' thing, yeah I noticed the similarities (especially once Spike got the motorcycle) but I never really thought it was intentional. Mostly because I tend to think of the movie as a completely seperate entity.

Hey, here's an interesting comparison: Buffy the Vampire Slayer: hit show spun from a not-so-hit movie. Serenity-hit movie (at least on the first weekend) spun from a canceled show. ha!
